The Task of Social Hygiene
The Task of Social Hygiene
By Havelock Ellis

The study of social hygiene means the study of those things which concern the welfare of human beings living in societies. There can, therefore, be no study more widely important or more generally interesting. I fear, however, that by many persons social hygiene is vaguely regarded either as a mere extension of sanitary science, or else as an effort to set up an intolerable bureaucracy to oversee every action of our lives, and perhaps even to breed us as cattle are bred.

We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.

About the Author

Havelock Ellis (1859-1939) was a British physician and social reformer best known for his pioneering work in the field of human sexuality. His most notable contributions include his extensive writings on sexual health, gender, and social issues, which challenged prevailing Victorian norms and promoted a more open understanding of sexuality. Ellis is perhaps best known for his multi-volume work, ""Studies in the Psychology of Sex,"" where he explored various aspects of sexual behavior, identity, and psychology. He advocated for sexual education and the importance of understanding sexual health as integral to overall well-being. In addition to his work on sexuality, Ellis was an early advocate for women's rights and gender equality, addressing issues such as reproductive rights and the societal constraints placed on women. His progressive views made him a significant figure in the early feminist movement. His legacy continues to resonate in contemporary conversations about sexual health and rights.
