The Tithe Scam
It is incumbent on every Christian to check veracity of claims made by the modern day church. One of the claims is that a believer is duty bound to part with 10% of their income every month. I was subjected to this abuse until I decided to read the Bible myself rather than accept what was dished out to me.
What a shocker!!
I found that there is no such command in the Bible. The paying of a Tithe was a Law that only the Jewish people had to obey.
It was not given every month or year but every 3rd year in the Jewish calendar.
It was not for the Priest but for his assistants the poor and foreigners living among the people of Israel. This Law was only to be obeyed after the Jews took possession of the Promised Land.

Proponents of the paying of the Tithe will quote this passage of scripture by Jesus.

You Pharisees and teachers are show-offs, and youre in for trouble! You give God a tenth of the spices from your garden, such as mint, dill, and cumin. Yet you neglect the more important matters of the Law, such as justice, mercy, and faithfulness. These are the important things you should have done, though you should not have left the others undone either. You blind leaders!
Matthew 23[23]

They latch on to this passage and like the blind Pharisees and teachers fail to see that they are guilty of neglecting to follow other more important instructions given by Jesus.

Teachings like:
If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you. But if you dont forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6

Again..

After Jesus had washed his disciples' feet and had put his outer garment back on, he sat down again.
Then he said: Do you understand what I have done? You call me your teacher and Lord, and you should, because that is who I am. And if your Lord and teacher has washed your feet, you should do the same for each other. I have set the example, and you should do for each other exactly what I have done for you.
John 13[12]

Now I know that they will defend themselves by saying that we should not take the some instructions of Jesus literally. If that be the case who gets to decide?
It must be borne in mind that Jesus only interacted with Jewish people whilst on earth and so he spoke in terms that Jews understood.
This book is not an opinion but as it appears in the Bible.
