About the Author

Kent P. Jackson is a professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University. He has a BA in ancient studies from BYU and MA and PhD degrees in ancient Near Eastern studies from the University of Michigan. He joined the BYU faculty in 1980. His research interests include the Near East and Latter-day Saint scripture, doctrine, and history, with emphasis on the intersection of Mormonism and the Bible. He has authored or edited, among other works, Joseph Smith’s Commentary on the Bible, Joseph Smith’s New Translation of the Bible: Original Manuscripts, and The King James Bible and the Restoration. He is a former chair of Near Eastern studies at BYU, former associate dean of religion, and former associate director of the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies.
