What a fun series!  If you haven’t read the Chime Travelers books yet with your children, you’re in for a treat!  Join Katie and Patrick as they travel back in time and befriend saints.  Can you guess who each saint is before they put the clues together and solve the mystery themselves?  Can you guess what their mission will be before they return home? This series is awesome.  It’s like the classic Bailey School Kids series meets the Catholic Faith!  Lisa M. Hendey has carefully crafted these little chapter books that your kids will love.  The series offers a great mix of charm and whimsy without any references to magic.  The result is a fun, wholesome, surprising adventure series that will leave your family wanting to read more! The Whisper in the Ruins is the third book in the Chime Travelers series, but it’s my family’s very first Chime Travelers adventure.  My daughter has really enjoyed this book.  She is too young to read it on her own, but has looked forward to hearing more of the story “about the broken glass.”    This would be the perfect book to read to children in preschool or elementary school.  Whether you’re reading this book as a part of your CCD class, homeschool group, children’s book club, or as a bedtime read, you will not be disappointed.  Parents and adults will stay engaged, and children will be entertained.  They will also learn creative ways in which they can care for others in their community!  This book is chock full of Catholic elements that will start some great conversation with your children!  You can hardly turn a page without discovering something new to discuss, making this the perfect way to share and pass on the Catholic Faith to little ones!  “Mommy, who’s St. Francis?  Why are they blessing animals?  Why does that kid have a pig at school?  Hey, they’re in a Mary Garden!  We have a Mary Garden!”  These are just some of the comments from children you may hear as you read, providing opportunities for lots of learning!     In this book, Patrick travels back in time and (spoiler alert) he meets Saint Francis of Assisi!  While he is visiting, Francis hears a special calling from the Lord, and Patrick lends a helping hand.  Patrick has a great opportunity to apply the lessons he learns in his chime traveling mission to the events going on back at his school.  He is able to return home and help build a greater sense of community among the members of his parish family.  In this series, Hendey has pieced together excellent, quality, Catholic children’s literature.  The Whisper in the Ruins is no exception.  You’ll want to share Patrick’s meaningful chime travels in this book with your own children again & again!

Title: The Whisper in the Ruins - Chime Traveler series 2 Author: Lisa M. Hendey Published: 5-13-2016 Publisher: Franciscan Media / Servant Pages: 128 Genre: Christian Fiction Sub-Genre: Time Travel; Children and Teens; Religious Fiction ISBN: 9781632530363 Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 5 Stars . A wonderful series to share with my great nieces and nephews. Since their parents were younger than some of them I have taught them all the joy of sharing literature. One chooses the book for the group according to their age group. I convinced them to read The Whisper in the Ruins and The Mystery at Midnight with me. I myself had only read a few pages of The Whisper in the Ruins to ensure it was something I wanted them to read and was soon glad I did. It appealed to both the boys in the group as well as the girls. There is a touch of adventure, fantasy, and history thrown in for good measure. The kids get a clean story that gives them a lesson in the Christian life and following God's wishes for the direction our live should go and that material and worldly possessions are not the be all of our existence. All four of them enjoyed the story and looked forward to reading The Mystery of Midnight with me. After which their parents and I were able to come up with the rest of the series that is presently available. We all look forward to more becoming available in the future. My rating for The Whisper in the Ruins is 5 out of 5 stars.
