This Cool Green Earth is a Christian story of redemption, showing how God chooses an unlikely person to help advance His kingdom. After touring the state, Gil and his wife purchase a large ranch and provide safe shelter for disadvantaged boys from locations across America and middle Eastern refugees who have been displaced because of religious persecution. Israel’s re-establishment as a nation-state in 1948 began the final count-down to judgment and the arrival of extinction-level events, most notably an asteroid that threatens to impact Earth. This Cool Green Earth shows readers humanity’s depravity, issues a call to repentance, presents the twin realities of a loving, merciful God who is not a “tame lion”, and the imminent arrival of cataclysmic judgment. By reading Gil’s story, readers learn to take advantage of their opportunity while Earth is still cool and green, before it turns hot and dry. This Cool Green Earth is unique in that it presents a future that is catastrophic without being dystopian.

About the Author

Don McBurney was a U.S. Air Force pilot, flying an EC-121 in radar recon and combat air patrol over Vietnam. He also patrolled Korea’s DMZ on TDY assignments. After his military service, Don graduated from Oral Roberts University with a master’s degree in theology. He retired as one of Montana’s senior real estate appraisers. Don and his wife of fifty-two years are active in their local church and are proud parents of five children and (so far) nine grandchildren. He was honored to publish in the national Appraisal Journal. His previous novel is The Triplet. Don resides in Kalispell, Montana.

When the Lius and Websters meet, they find common ground in their love of the Bible and Montana, despite their different backgrounds. When a catastrophic event threatens the whole world, both families lend their expertise in biblical prophecy to try and help. McBurney (The Triplet) takes great care to include global perspectives on suffering and redemption but unveils the plot so slowly that the book reads more like a family genealogy rife with sermons than an apocalyptic novel. Readers interested in end-times prophecy will find that this book lacks the action and suspense of Tim LaHaye's "Left Behind" series or Joel Rosenberg's "The Last Jihad" series. VERDICT This one's a pass for all but the deepest of Christian fiction collections.—Christine Barth
