This story was fantastic! Loved Morgan, loved how passionate she was about her job and how much she cared about others, which led to some jaw-dropping heroics on her part. Gradually came to like Pax, but enjoyed how he grew and changed over the course of the book. The plot, however, was amazing. Complex, detailed, intense, obviously well-researched, with really interesting insight into some of the problems faced by these developing African nations. Totally gripping story, just as good upon rereading. Highly recommended.

One exciting thrill after another… Tinderbox marks the thrilling debut of Rachel Grant’s military romantic suspense Flashpoint series with an emphasis on adventure in dangerous locales. Rachel’s books are original, fast-paced, educational and highly entertaining all while dealing with serious issues. The tale is gripping from the onset and I was kept on the edge-of-my seat throughout with barely enough time to gather my wits and breathe before another deadly peril ensued. I have enjoyed this series out-of-order. Each book stands well on its own. They do share characters and a setting. I can assure you that you won’t want to miss out by not reading them all in whatever order you choose. They are all fantastic reads. This is the story of Green Beret Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard and Dr. Morgan Adler, a paleoanthropologist and daughter of a general. It is set in the politically unstable climate of the Horn of Africa. As the story opens we meet Morgan who is under contract with the Djibouti government to complete an archaeological survey of the proposed route of a new railway. But, when she and her site are threatened by a local powerful warlord, she flees her site with the discovery of a lifetime. She seeks refuge at the nearby Cape Citron military base where she is intercepted by Pax, who literally saves her life, despite Morgan’s best efforts to deter him from doing so. Fireworks are guaranteed when Pax is assigned as the head of her protection detail so that she can continue her work. The characters are well-written, likeable, nerdy and realistic. Pax is an alpha, career-oriented, protective and puts up a robust fight to the strong attraction he feels to Morgan. Having been stung before, he’s extremely averse to having a relationship with a general’s daughter. Morgan, on the other hand, is quite open to a fling and doesn’t make it easy for Pax to ignore her. She’s a badass, knowledgeable, tenacious and has a love/hate relationship with her father, determined to succeed despite her father’s standing. Their hot chemistry is off-the-charts. Greg Tremblay provides the truly exceptional narration. His voice is clear and easy to understand. He voices both sexes equally well. I was blown away by his performance voicing a sultry female in a bedroom scene and shortly after a gravelly strong alpha. He perfectly and consistently differentiates between the multiple characters to where I had no issue at all knowing who is speaking at any time. His pacing is right-on and the end product is polished and professional. Tinderbox a great listen and I didn’t want to put it down! I laughed, swooned, shuddered, and hyperventilated while listening. There’s a multitude of surprising twists and turns and an unexpected reveal near the end that took me completely unawares. I found the archaeological and paleoanthropological discussions to be fascinating and mesmerizing. The author makes those subjects interesting and not boring at all! I feel like I learned something while being highly entertained! I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys their romantic suspense flawlessly-plotted, fast-paced, action-packed, and paired with intrigue, humor and sizzling sex scenes!

Amazing first book in a new series that you will not want to put down until you finish the book. Tinderbox, the first book in the Flashpoint series by Rachel Grant, blew me away from the first page and I could not put it down until I finished the book. I was just that good. The book opens with Dr. Morgan Adler, an archaeologist working in Djibouti, escaping from her research site after being threatened by machine gun toting warlord henchmen, to a US Military base due to a warning that the US embassy was going in to lock down. Morgan had uncovered remains that were the paleoanthropological find of a lifetime and she had to protect them from the Ethiopian warlord looking to expand his territory into Djibouti as well as “acquiring” Morgan for himself. Morgan reaches a road block before reaching the US Military base she was closest to, when she is stopped and questioned as to why she needs to get onto the base. Now here is where it gets interesting. Morgan is expecting the warlord’s henchmen to show up any minute to take her find from her, she just wants to get on the base to protect her find and to be safe, but the US Army is questioning if she is really who she says she is or is she just trying to get on to the base to deliver a message from the warlord, as the tip they received stated, and is a danger to the Military members who are stationed there. The soldier who stops Morgan, Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard, has orders to intercept Dr. Adler and in the process, saves her life. That is when the story really gets started. Morgan and Pax want the same things, to protect the site and to finish the work Morgan started, but they both have personal history that clouds the issue of how they should act towards each other. The attraction is there and makes all of their interaction exciting, but the friction between them has you guessing as to how this will all play out and will they both be successful in getting the job they were hired to do done. If you like military stories, suspense and romance then this is a must read for you. I have read most of Rachel Grants books and I think this is my favorite. Thank you Rachel for writing such intriguing books. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Wow, what a great start to a new series, the author did not disappoint. We meet Morgan who is an archaeologist and Pax a special force operator. When there is a threat on Morgan's life she is forced to live on the military base and Pax team becomes her security detail. This book was fast passed and action filled. Morgan allows herself to be kidnap to save Hugo a ten year old boy whom she was teaching English, but little did her captives know that she was no push over. In dire circumstances she was able to keep a leave head and fight back. Pax is every women's dream come true, he has been denying his feelings but once Morgan gets taken he will risk anything to have her back. I volunteered to read an ARC from the author and I'm not disappointed so worth losing sleep over

I just love this author and all of her book she pulls you in with excitement, thrills, action and suspense. This is romance as it’s finest with an author that never disappoints you with strong women who know how to hit the ground running and the hero’s that do their best to keep them safe. This is a wonderful start to a new series with a great plot and delightful characters that keep you turning the pages. She pulled me in from the first page until the last. I stayed up very late to read as much as I could, I hated to put the book down. When Morgan and Pax meet you can see the sparks they create coming right off the pages. Pax likes a strong woman which Morgan is. Pax isn’t letting any grass grow under his feet as he shows his very alpha side. Rules are rules as these two try their best to put up a wall to keep their attraction at bay. Neither willing to admit what they feel which really adds to the story giving a very interesting and exciting read. As danger comes their way they must learn how to work together as they try to fight their attraction. Pax is doing everything he can to keep her safe when she is taken he is on the race against the clock to find her. Morgan must really pull on her enter strength to get through some very trying days as she works to survive and hopefully escape. She is praying Pax finds her in time and he is doing everything he can to locate her and bring her back safe and sound. Ms. Grant has out done herself filling each page with excitement, suspense, danger, wonderful hot love scenes that is full of tension, lust, thrills and chemistry that leaves you holding your breath just waiting to see what comes next. The danger keeps you on the edge with eyes glued to the pages turning them as fast as you can talking to the characters as if they were real people. When you start talking, yelling at the book you know you are so invested you can’t put it down that you have a wonderful read you wish would not end. Mr. Grant deliveries all this and more she is one of my go to authors when I want something exciting that I know will pull me in making my heart beat faster as she takes me through one thrilling scene into the next. I have trouble waiting for her next book to come out. If you are looking for a wonderful author that keeps you one the edge with excitement and thrills you have found her. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I have.

This is a fantastic romantic suspense. I loved Morgan and Pax. They are both characters you can't help but to love. They are both strong and independent, and made for each other. I highly recommend this story!

I’m a huge fan of Rachel Grant’s work and have read everything she has put out. So when I learnt she was starting a new romantic suspense series, Flashpoint, I jumped at the chance to get an early look at the first book in the series, TINDERBOX. And what a look it was! TINDERBOX exemplifies Ms. Grant’s superlative skill in blending science (in this case, archaeology) with pulse-pounding action, spine-tingling suspense, and scorching hot romance to deliver a tale that is incredibly educational, realistic, and engrossing. There is nothing particularly novel about a U.S. Special Operations Forces soldier falling for the civilian under his/her charge in hostile territory, but Ms. Grant makes TINDERBOX stand out from the myriad military romantic suspense titles out there by tapping into the underexplored powder keg that is the Horn of Africa, drawing on firsthand experience of archaeology to make the reader practically taste the sunbaked dirt of Djibouti and the secrets it hides, and crafting two realistic, flawed characters readers can be genuinely invested in. Hero Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard is the kind of man you want to take home to meet your parents: career Army SF, quietly competent, and 100% alpha badass who doesn’t tip over into autocratic overly much. Once bitten, twice shy and very mindful of his military career, he’s extremely reluctant to give in to his scorching attraction to Morgan Adler, Ph.D., which makes his willingness to throw it all away to rescue the woman loves all the more heartwarming. Kickass, competent women who play in male-dominated environments are staples in Ms. Grant’s work, and Morgan is no exception. Though I found her petulant, petty, and immature at times--which made her harder to like from the outset than Pax-- those same traits are what made her so real (what woman hasn’t done something we regret when our pride’s hurt?) and her redemption after her fall from grace that much more satisfying. TINDERBOX reads like an intelligent, action-packed, summer blockbuster film that takes you to the edge from the opening sequence and keeps you there until the final, heart-pounding climax. Rachel Grant is not an author to be missed, and her new Flashpoint series is the perfect way for new readers to get acquainted with her stellar work without the intimidation of the 7-book backlist of her also superb Evidence series. I can’t wait to read more stories featuring the SF A-Team!

Tinderbox is the first installment in the new series Flashpoint by Rachel Grant. The story is set in the lawless land of Djibouti, where China and USA, made a power play for the region to obtain a more favorable present position in Africa. Tinderbox is without a doubt another spectacular, well written book, that takes us through the heartwarming, emotional journey of the inner conflicts of a Green Beret and a penniless Archeologist, in the middle of a warlord and government conflict. Pax and Morgan have a scorching chemistry that could jeopardize their life and the success of their job.

Master Sergeant Pax Blanchard is my new favorite hero! He's a nerd in uniform and respects the female mind-that by itself is a magical concept! I liked his wicked sense of humor and dedication to his job and loved the way he never underestimated Morgan! Their conversations were never dull and the chemistry was positively scorching! Dr. Morgan Adler is a very savvy blonde bombshell who's passionate about her work, trained in martial arts, and knows how to strip a weapon as good as any soldier. What impressed me the most was her maturity as a character as the story progressed. It was hard not to like her grit and determination to salvage what she could of a bad situation. She's also mouthy and stubborn but she knows when to admit she's made mistakes and make reparations. And the supporting cast.. Bastian and Cal, Pax's teammates, Morgan's dad, and CIA spook Savannah (aka Savy).... I loved how colorful and supportive they were! I'm also placing a request for Cal and Savy to get a story-there was something about those two... Tinderbox kicks off Rachel Grant's Flashpoint series and all I can say is WOW! This story was one heck of a ride! Grant's ability to weave real places with fictional plots, and write strong female characters, has created a captivating tale full of pulse-pounding suspense, a fascinating political atmosphere, and blazing sexual tension that will leave you breathless until the very last page! I received this ARC from the publisher which in no way impacts the content of my review. Recommended for fans of military romance and romantic suspense.
