CHAPTER 1
To My Muse
She shines like the sun when she does smile.
The wind begins to blow when she goes by.
There's not a one like her, for she's so fine.
So many suitors want her, how they try!
Her voice is like a bluebird soaring past.
You turn your head, can't help it, want to see.
What kind of creature has just passed right by?
She has the power to make you oh, so free.
But don't think it will be easy to get her.
She's heard the pleas of many trying hard
To take her hand and walk along right with her.
She holds inside her heart the final card.
Appreciate the things that constitute her.
You may wind up in love from far away.
Still, it would be real fine to even know her
And just to fantasize two cubs at play.
Lynne
How sad it is to be so old
That you can't play the dating game.
Sometimes you find you can't recall
What she said last, or her first name.
Every time I think of her
I call her Kate instead of Lynne.
It's not a bad thing – not the worst,
It's not out loud, it's just within.
But I have no dementia, no.
I think it's nerves, yes that is all.
We smile so nicely eyes to eyes
How sweet she is, don't want to fall.
Yet, there can be no deep relation –
Our age difference is so great.
Still quite good friends we can become –
Perhaps that will be in our fate.
No One's Fool
Be strong, and don't be anyone's fool.
You must be the object of your own rule.
Don't follow a path set down by others.
Are all to you mere substitute mothers?
Things all will weigh you down, it's true.
One's like you who make it are few,
But that doesn't mean to give it all up.
Before your eyes keep the sign of the cup.
You thought you were destined for a big fall,
That you'd succumb to the devil's call.
You've made it so far, so keep on going.
You're not to be tossed, you're in a state of knowing.
Fight the fight, overcome every day,
No matter what the others will say.
You thought you were too sensitive and weak
To strive in this world. Now continue to seek.
Out of Joint
Today has been so bad it can't be real.
I'm so torn up, don't know just how to feel.
It seems the closest ones, they disappoint.
I'm angry, and my bones are out of joint.
Are women bound to mess up your good mood?
I thought I had a real fine attitude.
I can't believe how inside I do rage,
I hardly seem the clever, knowing sage.
Would I be paranoid if I did say
That women know the hidden, secret way
To turn you upside down and set you off,
To dunk you way deep down inside the trough?
It's only true if you will so allow
That girls cause you to moan and to regret
The good that you have done, and become cruel,
Then you'll become the fool, now don't forget.
What You Are to Me
Like a peanut butter sandwich
Is to a little boy –
That you are to me.
Like a ball of colored yarn
Is to a little kitty –
That you are to me.
Like a big old nasty bone
Is to the family dog –
That you are to me.
You are my life, and what is more –
Like a brand new red bike
Is to a little girl –
That you are to me.
Like the pond at 4 AM
Is to a little fisherman –
That you are to me.
Like a message straight from God
Is to a holy man –
That you are to me.
And what is more, I say –
There is no way to tell
How you make me feel so well,
The truth is far beyond
All of life's small offs and ons
You are relief to pain,
You're the sun that follows rain.
You're my everything! –
That's all.
We Call Each Other "Friend"
There were two cats who made their way –
Were different as can be,
But both were pretty, I would say.
They filled me with such glee.
I realized quite quickly that
I couldn't choose just one,
And so I tried to give a pat
To both till I was done.
It was a pleasant choice I picked,
For I had double joy.
Neither one should think I tricked
Them. It was not a ploy.
After a while, I wondered how
It all would finally end.
I'm happy now. I'll take my bow.
We call each other, "friend."
Where It's At
I want to know you, where it's at.
You're all I need, and that is that.
You'll free my heart and touch my soul.
You make me rock. I see us roll.
Phenomenon you are! That's you!
Won't sit and think. Just want to do.
Our minds explode, we go to heaven.
A number's up, and it is seven.
So let's forget all old convention.
What isn't right, we will not mention.
We were made to be a pair, you see it?
Hiding will not do, don't flee it.
There we are together now.
We love to the hilt. Don't wonder how.
Enmeshed inside. How happy we are!
How much we've gained! We've gone so far!
Every Day I Rise
Every day I rise and think of you.
How did you get so far inside of me?
A nightmare had me stuck. Yes, it was true,
Yet morning sunshine lifts the scales to see.
You'll fill my soul as much as my dear heart.
Without you now I'd be lost and far down.
I know now that we'll never ever part.
You've put upon my head the golden crown.
And you, as well, are royalty to me.
You're made of sweets and holy God's own love.
Though still in part you are a mystery.
I know you more and more, like hand in glove.
So never speak unkind to me, oh no,
I couldn't help but cry and lose my way.
You have the power to make me live and grow.
So let's join in the world to share in play.
You'll Contemplate the Rose
There are such things to which you are attached.
You can become enthralled with all that be.
But you're now sad because you've become stuck.
With such clear eyes you still can hardly see.
You should enjoy the things that go around.
You'll become more insightful, more secure.
You sure do have, it's true, the moral right
To pick the best things that will give you more.
Attachment of itself's not all that good.
You wonder of what all you might enjoy.
Let all be like the chirping birds that sing
And give ourselves to not a single toy.
Once you are separate you start to like
All the things right there for you to see.
You'll contemplate the rose and its long stem.
It means so much, how it will make you free!
Real True Shit
The juice that makes us go
Runs through our inner life.
It's not in what we know.
Emotion's truly rife.
You see, it is a force
That's there in all we do.
We need not so endorse
The flow that goes right through.
There is no fashioned split
That makes us really two.
It is the real true shit
Seen only by a few.
It travels deep and wide;
The high starts from below.
It's no good if you hide.
You won't begin to grow.
Is it chemical deep down,
Or charged electrically,
Or can it be a sound
That indicates we're free?
Once we begin to know
The nature of this source,
Our knowledge isn't so.
We cannot know its course.
I've Had Enough
I've had enough, but you don't know.
Don't feel so open, now.
I've got to keep things to myself,
For lowered is my brow.
You see, I'm mad. I want to kill.
No, no, that's not like me,
But when she started flattering him,
My eyes just couldn't see.
Well, what do you know? It's not what I thought.
We're not that close after all.
She likes to flirt with other guys.
It makes me feel so small.
Well, I'm not one for getting even.
Oh, no, that's not my style,
But if I could, I'd let her know
For more than just a while.
What the Wise Enact
The Buddhist teachings make it clear
You can't rise without first real love.
You won't find out the way to peace
By chasing down the holy dove.
To understand the good and bad
You must refrain from being judge.
Everybody tells a story.
Some days you must plod and trudge.
Love your neighbor as your mother.
No, it's not easy to do.
So do your best by starting out
By loving all your kin so true.
Be an honest child of heaven,
Doing what the wise enact.
With the demons make no bonding.
Sign no evil devil's pact.
Not the Same
Things aren't the same right now for me.
I don't feel all that good.
Was something that she said out loud,
And I'm not made of wood.
I thought we had a special thing,
We both did somehow know it,
But it appears I'm not the one
For whom she'll only show it.
Was all inside my head, I guess.
There was no bonding there.
I felt so strongly for that girl –
Should I now even care?
We all relate in many ways.
It isn't all or none.
It's just that I am feeling hurt,
I thought I was the one.
Nothing He Can Tell
I want to live in true, bare state;
Unconcealed, I will relate.
In honest truth I will convey
The nature of each passing day.
The Taoist wants to be pristine,
To wear the homey color green,
To blend in to the background wood.
The world now just a neighborhood.
To speak the words that just pretend,
To know what we can't comprehend
Is how I do not want to be.
What's stopping me from being free?
A man is nothing he can tell.
The truth sounds by a ringing bell.
Now, if you want to live concise,
Partake of all that has no price.
Stand Your Ground!
You will not walk the path,
Would rather take the wrath
Of all that you must reap.
You dig down very deep.
Of fashion you don't care,
You're unadorned and bare.
You'll not be kingly crowned –
Stand your ground!
And all the earthly praise
Just leaves you in a haze
Of knowing not a thing,
Just like one knotted string.
You take it, win or lose
Accepting blackened ooze.
Don't want to be renowned –
Stand your ground!
They've got you all tied up,
You've not desire to sup.
You want to be so free,
You search for the right key.
You cannot hear your life
When faintly plays the fife.
Get yourself unbound –
Stand your ground!
Your senses now refined,
You settle and unwind.
It's all becoming clear,
The drummer is so near.
The world will open wide,
In truth you will abide.
And when you hear the sound –
Stand your ground!
A Poem
I need a poem.
I need to go
Back to my home.
Oh, don't you know?
There's something there
Inside my rhyme.
It will appear
In its own time.
I have the strength
To let it be.
The width and length
Is plain to see.
The new bud blooms –
Cannot be stopped.
No power dooms,
Each prophecy flopped.
I'm happy now
For I have got
(Don't quite know how)
An untied knot.
A Preparation
I want you in my darkened room.
Your face before me now does loom.
I cannot say you're with me now,
But will tomorrow so allow?
For two lost lovers to be free,
Now softly learning how to be.
Your full sweet lips just touched my cheek.
It makes me suddenly feel weak.
But I won't lose you; stay now close,
For I need one real potent dose
Of your sweet magic medicine.
It will not matter where we've been.
We'll come together, just we two,
And, we will know just what to do.
Our lives have been a preparation
For this loving, pure relation.
As You Are
I want to go, can't take this show.
The people are all hiding.
False faces, oh, do they care?
The people are all hiding.
I wonder how they view me, now.
Do we ever see the light?
I find out soon they're out of tune.
Do we ever see the light?
Oh, how I dream there'll be no scheme.
We walk on rocky roads.
Let's live within so we can win.
We walk on rocky roads.
I scream and yell inside my cell,
Enjoy being alone.
The others lie, just want to die,
Enjoy being alone.
It isn't bad, so don't feel sad.
I come out when I need to.
I can't remain like one insane.
I come out when I need to.
So don't you weep, just get some sleep.
You'll feel well when you're rested.
Yes, I take care, so I declare
You'll feel well when you're rested.
It's not the end, come be my friend.
I'll love you as you are.
I'm learning still, I know I will,
I'll love you as you are.
As You Comply
Once you notice the rolling hills,
The mountains high that give you chills,
The slowly moving puffy clouds,
And flowers standing like a crowd,
You'll never find yourself the same.
You might forget your given name,
You're lost in Nature's beauty so
There's not a place for you to go.
And don't forget the rising tide
And how two lovers will confide.
There's so much in this world immense,
You'll be imbued with holy sense.
Now don't be shy, and don't be clever.
The magic's there for you whenever
The time is right to make a try.
Just let it loose, as you comply.
Dance the Dance
I want you bad – or so my words go.
I want to let my love just flow,
And I don't care what morals tell me.
I feel it now way down below.
I've seen you, how you watch the boys.
Your inner thirst is, oh, so clear.
Don't tell me how you're pure and sweet.
I know you well; I've listened near.
And every boy I see you with
Just leaves me right there in the dust,
But my turn's coming, I can tell,
For in your eyes I did see lust.
Yes, finally you're ready for me.
I saw you glance with no disguise.
We're bound together, it is clear,
So why am I so shrewd, so wise?
So dance the dance. How you can step!
A future lover's still in line.
You'll get my all, so don't you fret.
My heart's prepared, and you look fine.
Dilemma
I find myself in an awful dilemma
Each and every day.
Am I one or am I in two parts?
They do not want to play.
On one side is the sensual –
It's such a part of me,
But then there is the sacred side –
Can't seem to get myself free.
The feeling of sex is one huge buzz.
I want my pleasure all the time.
But my inner compass ends up off,
And my life just doesn't rhyme.
Then I'm feeling so righteous and holy.
Want to be in the spiritual place.
It's greater somehow than sexual steam.
I'm happy getting grace.
Why can't I have them both, I ask?
Alternating each in turn.
Aren't both ordained by our great God –
A full life don't I earn?
Yet, no, they war against each other,
Each wanting to be first.
I can't have a little bit of both,
So I quit and live in thirst.
Why have you done this to me, God?
I am really no holy Joe.
The saintly path won't work; I fall
And can't obtain love's flow.
I need a brand new synthesis.
I need a higher reach,
One that'll resolve my troubled mind.
To you, God, I beseech.
Elaine
Her way was seen as odd.
She wasn't like the rest.
Her feet were often shod
With shoes that weren't the best.
She did not really care
About the cool in-crowd.
The clothes that she would wear
Were not meant for the proud.
Yet behind the outside cover
Lived a girl who took a stand.
To all she was their lover,
Like Christ, you understand?
I wanted to be certain
If her nature I could tell.
So I pulled back the dark curtain,
So I could see her well.
What was this strange girl like
Behind that wall of stone?
Just how would her heart strike
Me. Was she all alone?
I felt a bit uneasy
Approaching her one day.
My stomach churned uneasy,
Still I would not delay.
"Hello there, you're Elaine?
I saw you on my walk.
I'm looking for no gain,
Just thought that we could talk."
"Why? Everybody shuns me.
So why aren't you the same?
But I guess that talk is free.
You playing some weird game?"
"Oh, not at all. I wondered
Just what you're like inside.
I don't believe I blundered
By hoping you'd confide
In me, and if you'd share
Your thoughts and feelings, too.
There's something, girl, about you.
Are you one of the few?"
"Now, tell me how you mean that.
I need no nasty words."
"No, it's that where you are at
Is like the flight of birds.
"I think you're really worthy
Behind your old, worn clothes.
I think that you are truly
Amid the straw a rose."
"So tell me why you say this.
Do you know me so well?"
"It is the state of bliss
That fills me in my cell."
Every Single Kiss
I want to give my life to you,
Just like a river that won't cease.
My thoughts aren't trivial, they're sound.
We two will live in sacred peace.
You have a grace that can't compare
To the race of fools that fill the earth.
No trace of hate resides in you.
All dressed in lace, you show true worth.
Not that the physical should lead,
But you're Ms. Beautiful to me.
Not so quizzical, your ways,
Your love is true; you're in my gaze.
And since I got to know you well,
I've sought the good that others miss.
Forgotten are your looks to me.
I'm bought with every single kiss.
... for when she smiles
... for when she smiles my way, I'm like a boy,
Perceiving his first time the feeling of
His insides rushing up, nowhere to go.
Been touched as if by holiness and unknown.
We seem to get along without a care.
We like each other fine, like two young cubs.
It doesn't seem to be romantic love.
It's something special that becomes us both.
Not wanting to disturb what we have got,
I won't approach her as my favorite girl.
We'll just enjoy the depth of our sweet hearts
And never wonder how it all could be.
