About the Author

Born in 1941, B.M.C. Nayar (Mohanachandran) joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1965 after a brilliant academic career, a gold medalist first class first ranker, in the competitive State of Kerala, in History. He was the Chairman of the University College Union, a student activist and UGC scholar. He studied French language at the University of Brussels, Belgium and served as a diplomat in Brussels, Cairo and Rangoon. At 28, he became the Chairman of the International Commission office Hanoi Branch and Consul General, Berlin in 1984. He served as the Indian High Commissioner to Swaziland, Jamaica and Singapore and Ambassador to Mozambique and Kuwait. Nayar led the Indian Delegation to the United Nations ‘Law of the Sea’ Conference three years successively in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

After retiring in 2001, Nayar resides with his wife Lalitha Menon at House 24, H Block, Anna Nagar East, Chennai – 600 102, India.
