Tragedy befalls the Tommieboies, when during a terrible storm an oak tree, held in great esteem by them, is destroyed. As it lay dying it calls out to Tommy and tells him that he would have to lead his people, and that he is a Chosen One. Once in a lifetime is there a Chosen One and they have various powers bestowed on them by the spirits that dwell deep in the woods and forests.
Billypikes roam the countryside pillaging and stealing from peaceful Tommieboie villages. When an elder of the village is captured and taken hostage, Tommy discovers a new and unexpected friend. Tommy has begun to experience some of the powers and with them the realisation that this time the Tommieboies would have to fight back, and he would have to lead them. Despite his fears.
