About the Author

Rowena Surguy Womack was born during the Great Depression with tuberculosis and re-contracted the disease at the age of twelve. She spent three years in isolation at the Irene Byron sanatorium in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, one of the youngest patients ever treated for pulmonary tuberculosis with pneumathorax treatment. Despite these early health setbacks, Rowena maintained a thankful spirit and determination to succeed, graduating in the top ten per cent of her high school class, excelling in speech, debate, writing, music and mathematics. Plans to attend Valparaiso University in Indiana to become an attorney were squelched by her poor health.
After several years of marriage Rowena became a single mother with five sons and a daughter, and today she counts many grandchildren and great grandchildren in the family fold. A cancer survivor, she remains the thankful spirit, guided by her Christian faith. She finds joy in the smallest details of life too, much as a child might do. Rowena is the author of the children’s books POPCORN, YELLOWSTONE MOOSE (in English and French), GOOFUSUS ETC, TOMMY TWO SHOES, and the Tommy Two Shoes and Friends series coming in 2018.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Fran Keleher Kantar is a Michigan artist who grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds a degree in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota, has taught art at all levels from elementary schools to college, and has exhibited her work in various galleries. She illustrates in various media, such as pencil, pen and ink and watercolor pencil. Fran and her husband raised their three children in northern Michigan where she is a registered nurse.
