وُلِد في بروكسل، بدأ حياته كمترجم للغة المالطية في الاتحاد الأوروبي، وبعد فترة شغل فيها عددًا من الوظائف المكتبية في الصحافة، اتَّجه إلى الكتابة الروائية والسينمائية والموسيقية أيضًا. عام 2011 وجد فيلا جيرا نفسه وسط جَدَلٍ واسع حول الرقابة في مالطة، غير احتمال صدور حكم ضده بالسجن بعد نشره قصة قصيرة "إيروتيكية". نشر فيلا جيرا روايته الأولى "L-Antipodi" عام 2010، وفاز عام 2013 بجائزة الكتاب الوطني للنثر عن روايته "Is-Sriep Reġgħu Saru Velenużi- الثعابين ما زالت سامَّة"، كما فازت روايته "طروادة- Trojan" بجائزة الكتاب الوطني للنثر عام 2016. صدرت كلتا الروايتين عن مركز المحروسة للنشر.
