This book started off.......not very well. This is my first book by the author Penny Reid so I wasn't sure what to expect going in. Jessica believed she was in love with Beau. She had little to no interactions with Beau which made me feel she was a bit fickle. Jessica had tunnel vision when it came to Beau. He could do no wrong in her eyes. I sort of get the gist of where she was coming from in that we can build up this idea of a person and once we truly get to know them.....our expectations were off. That's not to say Beau is a bad guy, because he isn't. He just wasn't the one for Jessica. First off, I loved having a book where the main character had the same name as me. You would think with a name as common as Jessica that this would happen all the time but it doesn't. I think because the name is so common, authors tend to stray from using it. The problem was, I didn't like Jessica so much. She thought she was in love with Beau and then all of a sudden Duane is there and then she's in love with Duane. I felt she was bouncing all over the place. I feel like Jessica needed to regroup after her realization about Beau and take a breath before diving into another guy, especially his twin brother. I will say I adored Duane. He was this old fashioned guy who wanted to treat a girl respectably and do the right thing by everyone. Duane has had a crush on Jessica since they were teenagers. The problem was, Jessica only had eyes for Beau. I can't imagine being so into someone only to realize they only have feelings for your twin brother. OUCH. After some trickery, he did get on Jessica's radar. From there the ball started rolling. I loved the family aspect in this book. We may not always love the choices and decisions our family members make but we still stick by them no matter what. I loved this crazy Winston family with their 500 siblings. Okay, it was 7 but still....that's quite a large family. I adored getting to know each of the siblings and seeing each of their personalities. They are certainly a quirky bunch and I love each of them!! I can't wait to continue this series and learn more about each of them as individuals. On the down side, I had some issues with the writing. The author had words scattered throughout the book that I felt alienated the average reader. I'm by no means an English scholar and my vocabulary isn't the best but I feel I'm on par with the average person. Several times I had to stop reading and look up the meaning of words. This made it difficult to keep with my reading vibe having to stop and search for the definition of words continuously. Certain words like: laconic, magnanimity, acquiesced, modicum, dichotomously, minutiae, lissome, etc. were used when I feel we could've just used a more average word. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy learning new words and definitions to expand my vocabulary but the words popped up a bit too frequently for my taste. Overall, I enjoyed the love story between Duane and Jessica. It wasn't picture perfect by any means but I still swooned over it. The book did take awhile to get going in my opinion. I'd say it took until about 50% into the book for me to really become invested in the story. I'm giving this story a 3.5-3.75 and rounding up to a 4 star rating. I will continue this series and think I will enjoy it more with different characters highlighted.

This was a really fun and steamy read that I couldn't help but adore! I don't read a lot of contemporary romance although after loving this one so much I think that I really should. This author (and series) jumped on to my TBR list when a bunch of romance bloggers that I trust were raving about this series. I couldn't resist downloading a copy of this book when it was available for free on Amazon and rather than waiting for months to read it, I jumped right in. I'm so glad that I didn't wait as this book was just a really great read. Not only was there a really steamy romance developing between Duane and Jessica but there was also some laugh out loud moments in this book. I love a romance that makes me laugh as well. Jessica was hilarious to me and she would say the most inappropriate things off the top of her head at the worst times. It was really great and was an unexpected surprise. One of the things that I also enjoyed about this book was the conflict on how Jessica and Duane's relationship would work out. Jessica has always wanted to travel the world and has been planning on leaving town as soon as she has enough money saved. Duane on the other hand is more tied down to the area as he owns a car garage with his brothers. They both seemingly wanted different things out of life so it was interesting to me to see how the author was going to make it all work. I liked that there was also the added problems that Duane had with a local biker gang. It added a little bit of tension especially to the end of the book which had me reading faster to see how it would all work out. I loved the way that the author ended this book. I can't say more than that without spoiling anything but I do want to mention that I found the ending to be really great! Overall, this was a really great romance- one of the best that I have read in awhile! I am so excited to read more books by this author (and get to know Duane's other brothers). I hope that the other books are just as humorous as I found this book to be! I'm now thinking that I need to find some more contemporary romance recommendations to try out thanks to this book. What other great authors am I missing out on? I can easily recommend this book to fellow romance readers! Bottom Line: A really great romance- both steamy and fun! Disclosure: I downloaded a copy of this book for free from Amazon.

I enjoyed this story, but I've found that some of the other brothers intrigue me more. Guess I'll have to keep reading, but I do appreciate the humor while in wait for them to be published.

There should be a disclaimer for books with whiney 22 year old heroines. This book was a struggle to finish and I skipped through parts. The plot is inconsistent, tge characters 1-dimensional. The sub plots are ill-developed and I found myself wishing the bikers would off the hero just to add some complexity.

Truth or Beard by Penny Reid (Audio Edition) Narrated by Joy Nash, Chris Brinkley Winston Brothers #1 4 Stars - This book made me smile and laugh out loud often. Jessica is funny with her inner monologue and Duane is a proper southern Gentleman, well he sure tries hard to be that is. The Winston brothers all have a great rapport with each other and I enjoyed watching them interact. Cletus was my favourite, I think. The fire between Jess and Duane was always present however, sometimes, I felt Jess threw herself at him a bit to hard. Though to give Duane credit, he seemed to have his mind set on what he wanted and how he wanted to obtain it. Both Narrators did a great job with their roles. Joy's male voice was great and she had enough different sounding female voices that you could differentiate between characters. Chris also did a wonderful job with all the male voices, allowing me to easily tell everyone apart. I will check out the other brothers books.

I really enjoyed this book. I like both main characters. The idea of Jess having dreams and planning them when she was young was really essential. I gave this 5 stars I couldn' put it down.

I just couldnt get into this book. I read in about 100 pgs then gave up when our main guy gets threatened with blackmail. Seems like it was getting off target. I liked the men in this story but not a fan of the main chic who we unfortunately spend a lot of time listening to. I mean she rubbed me wrong right away and upon seeing one of the twins who she thinks is her crush she then clams up and cant speak for like 2 chapters.

I confess, I've owned this book since it first was published. I was going to wait until all of the Winston brothers were released. Then today, I realized how much I missed reading Penny's books and decided it was time to read this one. Totally worth every second!!! I can't wait to read the next one! ?

I enjoyed reading these books together. If I was unable to get my happy ending, not so much. I don't like to buy a book and then have to buy it's sequel for the happy ending.

Fun read! I just wish the author would start changing her heroine's ....make her from a diverse cultural background, Sicilian, latino, Asian, biracial, ect... Maybe in Billy's story....

Penny Reid has cross-stitched my heart with 5 stars! I feel compelled to express my feeling that this is a lovely, lovely, absolutely lovely piece of work. Truth or Beard, like its predecessor Beauty and the Mustache, marks Penny Reid's natural progression to a more literary style of fiction. Like a butterfly's emergence from a chrysalis, Reid has not only found, but has finely honed the strength of her uniquely distinct and multi-layered voice.

This made me feel all melty and warm, I loved it! It was a witty and entertaining story with a great cast of characters. Excellent read! Loved this story and how it was laid out. Jess and Duane are wonderful characters, so sweet and caring. Loved their animosity and bickering. They had such a fantastic re-meeting, it definitely kicked everything off perfectly. They had a nice push and pull towards each other and great chemistry! I like the conflict that was created for the characters and how they worked though it. Duane was so sweet, kind of gruff, but all man. I loved the bits of old fashioned he had going on in his head concerning Jessica. Jessica was awesome and I totally got her and where she was coming from. The two together were great and I loved their story. There was a perfect build and pace throughout. I thought the writing was fantastic. I really liked discovering all the ends and outs of Duane and Jessica, their family, and their growing relationship. It was such a fun entertaining story but there was a lot of emotion involved that definitely pulled at my heart strings. There were definitely some angst ridden moments that had me holding my breath. I also really liked the element of drama that was added with Duane and what he and his brothers were up to. Excellent cast of characters. Cletus was awesome, I want more of him for sure! It was nice getting to meet all the brothers and learn little snippets about them. This was my first book by Penny Reid and I will defiantly be reading more. It was witty and thoughtful and I totally enjoyed it. (p.s. In case you were wondering, this is NOT a love triangle type of story. I was slightly unsure because of the description and had to check before I started. It’s definitely not. What it is, is a 100% awesome read.)

Penny Reid does it again! I love when her release day rolls around and I'm never disappointed. I not so patiently waited for this series to begin after reading Beauty and the Mustache. Truth or Beard is well written like all of her books. I loved how Duane has always "seen" Jessica but in order for her to see him, some sneaky trickery is involved. Jessica is stubborn, witty and set on her own adventure. Duane is stubborn, charming and a bit mischievous. Little by little, the individual goals become shared goals and I'm glad I was along for the ride.
