Overview

Turn It Up by Kim Karr, Sebastian York, CJ Bloom

Charlotte Lane was the tomboy who lived next door. Eyes the color of the summer sky. Mounds of curly blond hair.
A little bit of sassy and a whole lot of sweet. She was my best friend. My confidant. My salvation.

But when circumstances tore us apart, it put more than just miles between us. I hated her. Blamed her for my worst nightmare. And I never wanted to see her again.

Then one wrong turn brought her back into my life, and now she's under my skin. In the midst of all the chaos surrounding us, she's what's changing me. Practically bringing me to my knees. Driving me to want to be a better man.

Our bond withstood the test of time, but when the future brings the unexpected, it will either draw us closer or tear us apart. Can we weather the storm?

Contains mature themes.

4.25 stars---TURN IT UP is the second installment in Kim Karr’s contemporary, adult THE DETROIT LOVE erotic, romance series duet. This is the continuing story and second chance romance for automotive designer/businessman Jasper Storm, and journalist Charlotte Lane. TURN IT UP cannot be read as a stand alone as the story line continues upon the events in book one SET THE PACE which ended on a cliffhanger. NOTE: If you have not read SET THE PACE there may be some spoilers in my review Told from alternating first person points of view (Jasper and Charlotte) TURN IT UP picks up immediately upon the events of Set of the Pace. Jasper has been charged with murders of two people with close connections to Jasper and his past, and Charlotte remains in hospital following a vicious attack. What ensues is the search for the truth about what happened years before and the connection to present day events. As the story line builds and the date draws near for Storm Motors to acquire an important piece of land, Jasper’s business partners-Will Fleming, Jake Crown and Drew Kates are blindsided by sins from their past. Someone is desperate to destroy the partner’s reputations, while placing Jasper and Charlotte in the direct line of fire. TURN IT UP immediately throws the reader head first into the action and drama, slows down throughout the building story as Jasper and Charlotte’s relationship becomes more serious; and the partners find themselves in struggling relationships of their own. I am hoping for some future story lines about Will, Jake and Drew. The final chapters reveal the truth, the people responsible, and the connections to the past. The epilogue fast forwards the story line approximately eleven years where we catch a glimpse into Jasper and Charlotte’s future. I am hoping Kim returns to Detroit and offers up a story line for each of Jasper’s business partners. There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the city of Detroit, Michigan. As the city struggles with poverty, corruption and crime, so too do the people who make Detroit their home. TURN IT UP is a story about friendship and love; about finding one another after years of secrets and lies; about revealing the truth. The premise is entertaining and enjoyable; the characters are colorful, animated and intense; the romance is seductive and provocative. TURN IT UP blends mystery and suspense into a romance story line where two people reconnect following years apart.

Nothing is as it seems and the past is never really in the past. The two main themes from this amazing conclusion to the Detroit Love Duet. We pick up right where we left off, Jasper is in major trouble, and Charlotte has just gone through her own horrifying ordeal and in a twist of maddening fate they can't be there for one another in their time of need. Though that's the poetic justice of this two-book series. In book one, it was about Jasper and Charlotte reconnecting and learning that they are two halves of two different wholes: friendship and romantic, steamy, earth-shattering love. But were they treating each other like crutches? I think they THOUGHT they were bringing each other down. But to muster through their own harrowing experiences on their own two feet and just needing to see each other at the end of the day lent to the epic love these two share. Yes, they are stronger together, but what they have learned through life and their friendship is that their connection makes them stronger when they can't be together as well. What we get in Turn it Up is nothing short of a shocking and mind-twisting finale. There are so many zigs and zags that readers will be a little whiplashed but in a deliciously satisfying way. Jasper and Charlotte have yet to get to the bottom of who is once again turning their world upside down. There are suspicions and even confessions, but nothing sets quite right. And in the end the betrayal will be sharp and painful, yet you won't believe you didn't see it coming. In true Kim Karr fashion this book mixes a great deal of suspense and anticipation with epic moments of professed love and sinful moments of stolen passion. Please be forewarned that book one does need to be read before book two, but every page is worth the the read. Jasper and Charlotte will have you rooting for them until the very end and the secondary characters will draw you into their stories that are begging to be told. I do hope we get to hear from Will, Jake, and Drew and how their stories turn out. These four men were brought together by their pasts and bonded into something stronger than blood, so I'm definitely staying tuned in hopes we get their stories as well. But for now we bid a wonderful, and bittersweet goodbye to two wonderful characters that will definitely be stuck in my head. Their story stands out among the crowds of romance novels and with the flair that is unique to only Ms. Karr this duet will blow readers away! Happy Reading! *ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

4.5 Stars!! “Quickly. I wanted quickly more than I wanted air to breathe. I need to see Charlotte. Get to her. Hold her. Touch her. Protect her. Make love to her. It has yet to happen. And it’s all I’ve been able to think about.” What a thrilling and exciting follow up to Set The Pace! Turn It Up picks up right where the last book left off and boy does it take you on one crazy ride. There’s danger. Action. Suspense. Romance. Sexy Good Times. And lots of delicious twists and turns. Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I have been dying and I mean dying to get my hands on this book. When we last left Jasper and Charlotte, we were given one crazy cliffhanger. And I have been just dying to see how it would all turn out. And I gotta tell you, for me, it was worth the wait. From the moment I picked up Turn It Up, I was hooked. I couldn’t read through the pages quick enough. I had to know what was going to happen next. I had to know if Jasper and Charlotte were going to get their HEA that they deserved. And I gotta tell you, there story does not disappoint. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and the twists had me holding my breath. I loved Jasper and Charlotte. They are just impossible to not love. They are so easy to connect with and to understand. The connection these two have is absolutely amazing. There love is so strong. There was nothing that these two could not get through, as long as they were together. It was such a joy to watch their story play out. It made me laugh. It made me swoon. And at times, I was left with a ridiculous smile on my face. And I gotta tell you, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Turn It Up gave me everything I could have wanted and more. I loved the twists. I loved getting all my questions answered. I enjoyed trying to figure everything out. But, most of all, I really enjoyed falling in love with Charlotte and Jasper.

Jasper and Charlotte finally found their way back to each other after all these years. But even if they try to put that past behind them will it be the one thing that will destroy them? I loved this duet!! I was left in the first book cussing Kim for leaving us hanging the way she did but she made up for it in this book. I had trouble putting this book down I couldn't wait to see what happened next and before I knew it I was at the end. The chemistry between Jasper and Charlotte was off the charts. I loved the strength, courage, confidence and growth Charlotte showed in this book and that it was because of the way Jasper treated her that helped her with the growth. The way they opened up to each other in this book was beautiful written. Also the friendship between Drew, Will, Jake and Jasper shined through in this book the love they had for each other and the family they created it was very heartfelt. This is the second book in this duet. Set The Pace is the first book and must be read first. You won't be disappointed it was a great sexy read that will leave you on the edge of your seat to see what happens next. I received a advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
