Twelve to Twenty: The Story of Eddie
Rules Never Applied to Eddie

After many hours of first-hand interviews, combined with personal experience, Beverly Graham has written a biographical fiction of the life of a young, Hispanic boy growing up and living in east Los Angeles. This book, based on a true story follows Eddie, from the time his troubles first start to his becoming an adult. Eddie is the boy who is seen every day but suddenly becomes invisible. Living a crime ridden life, he is ignored, discarded, and abused. He is a typical teenager who feels invincible with good looks and an athletic body. The rage building up inside him, is growing with each passing day. Thinking he is indestructible, he soon realizes there is no one he can depend on to help him grow up. The only one he can rely on is himself, his own self awareness and self worth. He is living in a gang infested neighborhood in east L.A., in the 1960’s, where rules did not apply. He is arrested at the age of twelve and then again at thirteen for ever more serious crimes. Given numerous chances to reform, Eddie resists help. He does not trust anyone who tries to guide him or point him in the right direction. This story will spark the hope of rehabilitation and make you wonder if it should be ignited or the boys passed over and forgotten. Many are given a chance to reform, but few show they have the inner strength to trust in themselves.
