Uh-Oh, A Skunk - What My Cat Was Trying to Tell Me
I have a cat named White Socks who showed up at my house as a beautiful stray Maine Coon kitten. I took care of her for awhile until it became clear that the outdoors was no place for a nice cat, but I already had one indoor cat and wasn't sure if the two would get along; they didn't for a long time So, for about a year White Socks stayed outside and encountered raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, birds and yes, skunks, I'm afraid. But, I brought here inside when she got hit by a car. Having survived that and many other things, she stayed inside after I declawed and spayed her.

Having survived the wild outdoors, White Socks was very much aware that something outside appeared to be trying to enter in the crawlspace underneath my bedroom. She kept checking the floor vents and sniffing around them.

Every morning about 5:30 a.m. I would hear a scraping noise outside my bedroom window and Socks would rush to the window, waking me up to pull the blinds up so she could check on the noise. But, it wasn't until about a month later that I saw a skunk crossing the back patio early one evening when I was talking to my Mom on the phone. I didn't think anything of it at first, of course other than I hoped it was "just passing by." However, according to my neighbors, skunks are unheard of in these city parts, despite a wooded area being nearby.

But, that was only the beginning of the skunk story and what would happen next, you just won't believe! You've just got to read the rest of this story - it's unlike any other!

It's humorous as well as educational, and you'll wonder how I survived it all and had the patience to endure this ongoing struggle as humans and animals attempt to co-exist in one form or another.

About the Author

I'm originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Working for the postal service for 16 -1/2 years I was a mail processing clerk, secretary in Engineering, Data Collection and time-keeping clerk in Nashville, Tennessee. At the age of 16 I began writing poetry and wrote my first of about 100 songs. Unfortunately, none of the songs were ever published, but I haven't given up hope. At the age of 20 I was working on two inventions, and I continue to this day to hopefully hit on the next "bestselling idea!" I also began writing a journal that became so many pages that I've decided to relinquish the complete autobiography for now and create mini-episodes (or short stories) instead. Herein lies one of those stories. I also do some selling on E bay. I have a couple other books that I plan to write in the near future, and I'm also would like to write a book-turned-into-a-movie in my lifetime.
