Want It by Jennifer Chance

In the latest tantalizing Rule Breakers novel from Jennifer Chance, an irresistible alpha male follows his ex into a deadly standoff—and reignites a heated affair.

For Erin Connelly, being a good girl isn’t such a bad thing. She’s working her dream job at a Boston art gallery and staying out of trouble, which is more than she can say for her deadbeat mom. Unfortunately, her mother’s latest misadventure lands her in the clutches of a Mexican drug lord. Now the only person who can save her is the one man Erin has no business asking for help: the sexy-as-sin army ranger who just so happens to be her former high school sweetheart.

Zander James is no gentleman—and no officer, either, thanks to Erin. Four years ago, she made a call that terminated his highest aspirations . . . and their relationship. He’s never forgiven her, but when he learns that Erin’s embarking on a half-baked rescue mission, he sure as hell can’t let her go alone. Now, with a treacherous enemy lying in wait, the electrifying tension between them may just be Zander’s undoing. Because while he may be able to keep Erin alive, he can’t promise to keep his hands off her.

A sweet, dramatic story about long lost love and how thing can come full circle. The story line was great and the drama pretty good. I liked the way it flowed and never lost my interest. It was quick and easy read I would recommend to anyone. The characters are strong and could be anyone you would meet on the street. They aren’t far fetched or unrealistic. Their story lines and background were creative but not really touched on much. It gave you enough information but didn’t dig too deep. Zander at first came across as a scrawny jerk but the more you get to know him and the more the author reveals about him he quickly becomes sexy as hell. Dominant, bossy and hot. Despite the fact that she was trying to lie absolutely still, Erin instinctively arched a little, and Zander’s expression changed, his smile deepening, going almost wolfish. I have to say – there are some scenes in here that are sexy as hell but the pool scene, omg – that left me taking a deep breath I tell ya lol. It wasn’t about the action *wink*, it was about how the action made me feel. As I said, the sex was hot, the drama exciting, the characters strong and the passion is thick but the one thing that stopped this from being a 5 star read for me was the grammatical errors. They weren’t out of control crazy but they were enough to distract me when I was reading a d a couple of times I have to re read. Go ahead and grab it and see what you think – I’ll bet you enjoy it. It really is a great read!

Decent story...more romance than story, though...

I received a copy to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. This is the third in the Rule Breakers series and I loved it too. Each story is about a different couple but the interact with each story line some, so I you only read this one it will not leave you hanging. Erin works in an art gallery where she should be displaying her own art and living her life. When she gets an email regarding the funeral of her ex-boyfriend, she doesn't know what to think. Can she see Zander again, give her condolences and leave? But she has to talk to Zander, she needs some answers to help her get her mother back. After about a year her mom calls saying she is being help in Mexico and they want money. When Zander finally gets Erin to tell him the truth, he is not letting her go alone, he will go with her if only to keep her safe. When things heat up between them, they both want to forget the past but it will always be there. Can she forgive herself for ruining his life? Will he finally see that it was his actions and not hers that set the wheels in motion? If you are looking for a great story with a great couple, then you should read this one and also enjoy the whole series. Can't wait for the next one. **Copy also provided by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review**

This was pretty good, and I liked the chemistry between the main characters. The main thing that sat wrong with me was Erin felt really naïve to me, which led to me seeing her as ditzy. Also, the reason Erin and Zander separated was BS; I get they were young and everything feels so major, but I think if Zander was really in love with Erin then he would have understood and not been such a hothead, but in the end I liked them together. I like the premise for this story, and most of the back story of the characters. The premise helped add some action to the story, and that kept it flowing, and I was shocked that the story didn't go in a certain way with Erin's mom; I think it would of added an interesting element if it had gone the way I was thinking; I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll stop there. I didn't read any of the previous books in the series, but that didn't seem to deter any from this book; there were brief mentions of characters from other books, but other than that I was fine without having read the other books. I will look into the other books, and what other books Jennifer Chance has written because I did really enjoy this book; I'd say this book is almost a 4 star, but was just shy of it; still an excellent read!

I requested Want It by Jennifer Chance as an arc on netgalley because the description sounded nice and action packed. At the time I requested it I didn’t realize I’d actually read an earlier book in this series, Fake It, and was only so-so when I rated it Want It was a second chance story. Our heroine, Erin and hero, Zander had dated four years earlier, but broke up after a series of bazaar events and reasons. Of course as always during their four year separation Zander slept around and Erin was celibate. Whatever. Honestly, even though Erin’s ‘goodness’ annoyed me, I didn’t really have anything against her. She was an okay heroine. However; I could not make myself fall for our hero. Zander was a jerk. Even at the end of the story he’s mad at Erin about something she did. Something that was NOT unrealistic. He was way out of line with his misplaced anger. He kind of finally admits that he made some wrong choices but still couldn’t get over a certain thing Erin did. Something I think just about anyone would have done. To make her feel guilty about it, just pissed me off. My main problem with Want It was the pacing of the story. For a book based on Mexican drug cartels and ransom I was pretty bored for most of it. We spent a lot of time just thinking of their past and analyzing Erin’s body’s reactions to Zander. We do get some of Zander’s point of view and that did help a bit because we were able to see where he was as well, but it was also lots of analyzing and remembering on his part as well. I think I also found the sex a little… well off. I mean here our couple is in Mexico, finally, they are supposed to be in a high tense situation, but somehow they find time to have lots of sex. And this couple talks during sex, but not the good kind. It was kind of crazy on top of Erin’s ability to come on command. There were pages and pages of sex and them talking during it. One scene in particular is a total 3% of the book. It was mostly foreplay, which I normally like, but it just went on too long. Then of course in the end it all ties up really quick and perfectly. Everyone makes up and leaves all happy to go off and live their unrealistic happily ever after. I just found it all too perfect and easy. Ultimately the decision of ‘to read or not to read’ Want It is up to you. If you like second chance stories this might be one you want to check out.

I really liked this book. It was sexy, beyond steamy in the bedroom and action packed. Erin Connelly has lived her life hiding the truth about her family from the world. Until one day something happens that she cant handle on her own. Causing her to reach out to her first true love Zander James to help save her mother from her latest misadventure. Zander James blames Erin Connelly for ruining his highest aspirations with one phone call four years ago. They have only spoken to each other one time since that ill fated phone call so he is very surprised when she shows up at his fathers funeral saying that she needed to talk to him. Zander may have been angry at Erin for a long time but he cannot hide that deep down inside he still wants her. So when Erin informs him that's she is going to do something that could get her hurt or likely killed he knows he cant let her go alone. This journey begins with secrets and broken hearts and ends with everything out in the open. But the real question is will the truth change anything or will they continue to live in the past? I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review. My honest opinion is that this was a really good book. I loved how Jennifer Chance created these two characters. It was clear that although they were the same age; life experiences made Zander appear much older. Erin at times seemed very weak but I had to remind myself of her age. I really thought back on a younger me at that age and I would have to admit, if in that situation I would act the same way. I loved that Jennifer really went into that night in the past when Erin made that phone call and showed how they felt on that day and why each character did what they did. It really helps the reader understand why that one phone call was a big deal to them both. I don't want to give any spoilers but It kind of made me mad that Erin felt like she had done something so wrong by making that call and I loved when Erin finally speaks out and expresses how she felt. Again I thought back to a younger me and I would have made the same phone call and would have dared anyone to hate me for making it. Overall great book I could go on and on. Jennifer brought me on a literary ride where I was biting my nails wanting Zander and Erin to make it out of the whole situation alive and clearly in love. Great book for a great price currently listed for 2.99 on bn.com

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin’ Stars Want It, by Jennifer Chance is her third book in the Rule Breakers series.  The story's characters are very well developed and the plot will seduce you from the beginning and leave you wanting more.  Continuing with remnants of the characters from the previous books, Jennifer adds to it by creating the world of her newest couple, Erin Connelly and Zander James. Erin Connelly has her dream job, working in an art gallery.  Even though she longs to be an artist herself, she has lost her ability to be creative since that long ago fateful night that changed her forever as well as the one person she loved beyond measure, Zander James.   Zander James has come home from the military because of his father's death.  He never expected to stay long, but when opportunity calls, he has to answer.  Erin Connelly has come back into his life.  Throwing her out of his life years ago because of something she did to him, Zander has never forgotten her.  Now that she has come back into his life and needs his help, old feelings begin to surface and he can't let her go again, not yet. Will Zander be able to help Erin in her moment of need, even though they have a tumultuous past?  Will Zander finally forgive Erin for her lack of understanding from their past?  Read this book to find out!!! As the plot thickens in the story, I was overcome by the beautiful design of the characters and their plight.  I loved the fact that love transcends all bounds and that no matter how long these two characters had been apart, some things on a primal level are never forgotten.  This book has depth, passion, and hot sex scenes that will leave you breathless.  I can't wait to read the next saga in her Rule Breakers series.  Way to make me "Want It", Jennifer! Hero -  4.5 stars Heroine - 4.5 stars Steam Level: 4.5 stars  Plot: 4.5 stars  Cliffhanger: No Would I recommend this book: Yes!  This book is full of action and adventure as well as passion and love that you will be left wanting more! If you want a book that will make you feel on all levels, then this is the one for you! Would I read other books by this author: Yes!  Jennifer Chance is one of my favs and I enjoy reading anything from her.  She is accomplished by her works and that in itself is spectacular! ***Received an ARC of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review***

Just like the last book, I didn’t read the back blurb or anything, I just dove into the book.  Each book in this series stands alone really well.  You see the same friends, but nothing more.  The couple from book one were mentioned, but not seen.  The couple from book two did have a little cameo though.  Beyond that, there’s nothing that would scream “you’ve jumped into the middle of a series!” and I love that!   The past between Erin and Zander is a tumultuous one and I get why they were so upset with each other.  However, I did think they took their stubbornness and anger a little far.  So much so, that Zander honestly came off as a major prick to me at first.  He redeems himself though, and their chemistry – especially since they already have a history – is sizzling and downright tangible.   As for the full story, I found it exciting until the highest point of conflict.  I was a torn between being disappointed it was a little anti-climactic and happy that it was.  It didn’t evolve into some huge plot twist or deeper conflict or anything, and frankly I appreciate that because drama for the sake of a longer book or something can be counter-productive.  There are some flashbacks, which I usually hate, but these are short and relevant.  The ending itself was sweet and I enjoyed the reconcilliations between various people. Want It is a reunion story that jumps off the page and drags you in.  A gripping story with strong and authentic characters, this was an pretty awesome read that left me looking forward to the next one!

Want It was an enjoyable story about rekindling past love with an enlisted white knight in military armor. Erin Connelly's life has been turned upside down. Her absentee mother has been taken captive by a Mexican drug lord and she must scrape up every penny she owns to save her mother. Zander James is an elite solider on leave for his father's funeral. The last person he expected to see at his father's wake is Erin, his high school sweetheart. Their relationship ended abruptly and without closure. Years later the passion still burns hot, but will it be enough or will it burn bright only to flare out. I completely enjoyed the first half of this story. The interaction between Erin and Zander was interesting but it sort of lost is pull as they get closer to traveling to Mexico. I never quite felt the new connection between Zander and Erin which seemed to intensify as the story progressed. This was a like it read for me. Want It would definitely appeal for those who love a damsel in distress story.

I loved this book! The tension and frustration between Erin and Zander was just wow! This author writes super hot scenes with characters that are easy to relate to, and really makes the reader connect with them emotionally. I can't wait to read more of this author's work. I've read the previous books as well, and loved them. Look for reviews of her other books in the future and check out the excerpt on my blog for one of my favorite parts. 5 star The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well I was kept interested. This is Erin and Zander’s story. Erin and Jake were high school sweethearts until one phone call blew them apart. Erin now needs Zander’s help for her mother. Zander is not going to let Erin go. He wants her and has never really gotten over her. He will help her and somehow get her back. But when they head into danger will they even make it out to get there happily ever after? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book, this series and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

A second chance at happiness. Erin Connelly, is a good girl working her dream job at an art gallery in Boston. Unfortunately she still has a past, her mom is in trouble and needs to be rescued from a Mexican drug lord. There is only one person Erin can ask for help her old boyfriend Zander. Is he willing to forget the past and help her? This is the third in the Rule Breakers series but can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed the story it was sexy and lots of suspense, only issue is once Erin and Zander got together in Mexico the story focused more on that then Erin’s mom and the rescue. An enjoyable read!

This is a story about military guy name Zander (Alexander) and his high school lover Erin. One day Erin got a message that Zander’s father is death. She went to funeral and meet Zander again after four years. They both feel sparkles around them again. After funeral Erin decided to ask Zander’s couple of questions about going to abroad. Zander is a hot alpha male so he didn’t let go Erin to go alone. In meantime Zander discovered that Erin’s mom was kidnapped. So Zander deiced to help get back her mum. In all story I wanted to kick Zander’s a$$! He was such a j*rk! When he was young he accused Erin for his stupid mistake. And when they get back together again he was telling her about that mistake again and again and again! On the other hand Erin was sweet, little creature, too sweet to Zander. In this book was a lot of chemistry. Sweet read for cold evening.

I've struggled with my review of this book an the rating since I finished it. Let me say first that I really enjoy this author's other works and  I've enjoyed this series since I was hooked with the first book. This book was good but it seems to be lacking that special something that reaches out and grabs you. I found myself not really connecting with the main characters like I usually do. There was just something  missing. I didn't feel that the characters were really connected to each other either. I'm not sure if it was the timeframe that I had a problem with, it seems too short. He seemed to have done a whole lot in the military in just 4 years and I think that was the start of not being able to connect with his character. One thing that really struck me in the believability part was that she received the email about his fathers death but she hadn't received any previous emails. His mother makes a comment that she didn't realize that she was still on her email list but I found it hard to believe because his mother was very active socially and surely in the last 4 years there had been other group emails that she would have been included on. This is just something minor but it seems a bit indicative of the disconnections through the entire book.  I enjoyed that she traveled a journey to find her personality again with her painting. That was the highlight of this story, she moved beyond  her insecurities and regained her confidence, that was beautifully written and resonated with truth and honesty. Overall this is not a bad book, it's just not as good as the previous two. Perhaps if this has been the 4th book instead of the 3rd it might have fit better, as it is it almost seems out of place.

Excellent! I love this series by Jennifer Chance and this one is a great addition. This is a second chance story with a twist of suspense and it's very well done. After four years Erin and Zander are reunited after a bad teenage break-up. Erin is in trouble and needs Zander's help but will he forgive her enough to help? Get this one and find out, I highly recommend it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s well written and the storyline kept me interested. It’s got a little bit of suspense, though not enough to put it in that category. There was room for action and for the story to grow in that direction, however the author chose to focus on their relationship. It’s complicated enough without throwing too much into the story from the sidelines. The reader has to be focused on them, or the angst and depth of emotion would be lost in the shuffle. The characters would have seemed too deep for the plot. So, I think she had a nice balance. Erin and Zander are both really complex characters. They have layers that are damaged and buried deep under a façade they have protected. However, it seems that they are each other’s own brand of kryptonite. The only person who can break the façade and heal or destroy those damaged layers.  The history between these two is full of angst. Their relationship as teenagers was intense and hot, explosive even. The problem was that neither of them really knew how to handle the intensity. They were both still trying to find themselves amongst less than ideal home lives, though Zander’s was certainly a pittance compared to Erin’s. Unfortunately, that meant it basically imploded.  Erin is strong and independent, but she is also naïve and a huge pessimist. She doesn’t want to receive anything, whether it’s a gift or offer of help. It was a little too much for me sometimes, I got a little tired of her attitude. Not to mention the thing that drove Zander crazy about her was also my biggest pet peeve. She expects the worst, ALL THE TIME. She just looks for reasons for situations to fail, accepting that fate before she has any idea which way it night have gone. I didn’t dislike her though, and I definitely had sympathy for the situations that made her that way. So, even though I was really frustrated with her at times, it didn’t make me want to stop reading.  Zander is strong, sexy, and intelligent. He’s obviously got a big heart but he is seriously scarred from his fall out with Erin, and then from losing his father before being able to patch up their relationship. He’s quite lost, but when Erin comes to him for help, despite his hurt and anger, I think he senses that she is a life line. That she has the ability to help the world make sense. He fights those instincts pretty hard, but on some level, he knows they are there. He’s got some alpha in him and it definitely adds to his appeal.  There are some pretty steamy scenes that will have you reaching for some ice! The amount of sexual tension between them just explodes when they let go. There is also a tenderness between them that is sweet and helps build a foundation under the rocks they are stumbling through. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is that it didn’t grip me quite enough and Erin had a few too many moments where I was really annoyed with her. Even more than that though, was the epilogue. It didn’t leave me feeling content and satisfied. It wasn’t solid enough for me. I honestly would have preferred for it to end where it did without it. However, these things aren’t enough to keep me from recommending the book. As I said, I did enjoy it. I’m interested to go back and read the books preceding this one. As well as keeping my eye out for the next one.  ARC was provided in exchange for a fair and honest review.
