What's Left of Me by Amanda Maxlyn

"I absolutely fell in love with What's Left of Me by Amanda Maxlyn. With an uncanny ability to weave an intensely emotional story into a sexy romance, Maxlyn is a debut author you do not want to miss." – AL Jackson, NYT and USA Today Best Selling Author

Life works in mysterious ways.

Four years ago I became known as the girl with cancer.

I refuse to cry.

And I refuse to give in.

A relationship with a man is the last thing I'm looking for right now, but one night with Parker changes everything. He is persistent, and he knows what he wants.

Me.

He doesn't treat me like I'm fragile.

But he doesn't know, and I'm not ready to tell him.

What if it changes everything?
Tragedy found me when I was seventeen.

Love found me when I was twenty-one.

My name is Aundrea McCall, and this is my journey.

OMG! OMG! OMG! Is all I can say. First, this the first book I've read involving someone going through cancer. You absolutely cannot read this story without falling in love with Aundrea while she goes through this terrible battle of cancer. However she has a great support group in her best friends, family as well as the hot hunky new love Parker. I'm in love with Parker....tall, sweet, hot, romantic, what more can you ask for in a book boyfriend, he's got it all ♥ This is a 100% mess with your emotions story. The author Amanda did a FABULOUS job of keeping the story flowing smoothly from beginning to the very end. Without a doubt, make sure you have a box of tissues next to you when you read this. You will laugh, many laughs, you will cry, many cries, you will fall in love with both Aundrea & Parker. This story is simply Amazing.....I am very VERY PROUD of this new upcoming Author Amanda Maxlyn and can't wait to read more from this author in the future. Don't miss out on this AWESOME read coming soon ~

Do you have a box of tissues ready? Good, because you are going to need them. This book pulled at my heart strings the entire time but by the end I was full blown crying. It was like 3 a.m when I finished this book and I was trying so hard not to wake my sleeping husband. It didn't work, he woke up and was of corse concerned, I just blubbered something like, "it's the book", which he then just rolled over. I don't really cry, cry for books. Yes, I get emotional, yes I have been known to shed a tear or two. But those are always silent tears. This was not silent, this was me full blown crying. Any book that is about the subject of cancer is going to be a difficult and emotional journey. I had high expectations of this book, I had an idea of what this book COULD be and hoped for the best. Sometimes when I have an expectation of a book I expect too much and I am left disappointed. That is NOT what happened here. What's Left Of Me, not only gave me a story of a girl battling cancer, it gave me a new friend. I connected with Aundrea and I clung to her, because she was a friend that I had just made and had to be prepared to let go of. I loved her for her quirks, I loved her for being so strong and fighting for her life every single day. I loved her for still finding the time and strength to think of others when she had every right to only think of herself. And above all I loved her for being able to allow herself to find love. To cling onto the hope of tomorrow even when living for today was beyond bare-able. Amanda Maxlyn delivers an amazing debut novel, one that will take you on an emotional journey that will stick with you long after you turn the last pages. Ms. Maxlyn gives us a character that is so much more than a cancer patient, she is real, she is strong and couragous and beautiful. That is what made this book so powerful. There is so much more here than just a girl with cancer, this is her story, her journey of taking on the biggest battle of her life. This is a book for the bookshelf, this is a book that I will be handing down to my daughters once they are older. I can't really fully put into words how much I loved this book and I honestly can't recommend it enough. I have never had anyone close to me battle cancer, so I don't have any personal emotions to add to my experience of reading this book but I do know that it ripped me apart. Anyone who battles cancer, is a hero. A hero to those around them for always fighting and a hero to themselves for never giving up. One life can mean so much to so many people.

5 stars times a million.  I loved this book.  This is Amanda Maxlyn's first book.  She hit all the emotions of the characters dead on.  You can feel the frustration of Aundrea as she fights for control of her life.  your heart bleds for what she is going through, you admire her for her strength and courage.  You love her for her determination, you root for her.  Amanda also knew how to make you feel about all the characters in this book.  She hit on the head the feelings Parker is going through, you can feel his love and pain for Aundrea.  This is the first I have written a review.  This book blew me away.  I am looking forward to reading more of her books.n

This was such a wonderful book that makes you stop and think about everything that you have in your life at the moment. Of course, there were times to slap Aundrea. I get that most of the time she wasn't quite sure exactly what she was feeling but just reading the book you could tell that the chemistry between her and Parker was undeniable. Amanda Maxlyn has put her heart into this book and it shows. I absolutely fell in love with it within the first couple of pages and I had a hard time putting the book down. She writes the characters as if they could be the girl and boy down the street. It was such a great book! Of course, I cried and I laughed but throughout the whole book I was so glad that I read it. I recommend it to everybody looking for a good love story.

Wow! I am an emotional wreck after reading What’s Left of Me. I knew from the start that it would be a tear jerker but Amanda Maxlyn has taken it to another level. Don’t be discouraged, not all of it is heart break and tears it has its fun times and sexy steamy scenes...thanks to Parker Jackson. Now step aside ladies I am claiming Parker as MINE!!!  Aundrea is diagnosed with cancer for the second time. Since her current treatment is not showing significant change she is advised by her doctor to take on a trial study. Unfortunately this trial is not close to home. She is forced by her parents to move in with her sister Genna, leaving behind all her friends and family. When her friend Jean visits they decide to have a girl’s night out, have fun and let loose. This leads to her next move when she agrees to a one night stand with the most handsome man she has ever met, Parker Jackson. She is not looking for anything permanent and doesn’t do relationships so she tries sneaking out the next day, hoping to never see him again.  What Aundrea didn’t count on was that Parker just happens to be her brother in law’s new business partner. Aundrea tries to push Parker away but he is persistent. She agrees to be friends and nothing more. She decides not to tell him she has cancer.  She wants him to continue seeing her for her, not to treat her like she is fragile or feel sorry for her. The closer they get the more she struggles to keep her secret. She is afraid that once he finds out he will walk away from her. Overall this book is a great read. Now make sure to have some tissues on hand since you will need them, especially during the epilogue. Amanda I have to ask, why??? Why would you this us??? I was so mad during the epilogue that if I didn’t love my kindle so much I would have probably thrown it against the wall. But not mad enough to give it a low rating. Your debut novel is amazing and I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us on your next book.  *** ARC received from author in exchange for an honest review***

What's Left of Me is a poignant tale of strife trumped by courage and love. Aundrea McCall began her battle with cancer four years ago. She's about to undergo yet another round of treatment and she's woefully tired of being that poor girl with cancer. Before her chemo begins, her best friend talks her into a girls' night out and it ends up being a night that changes her life. The night she meets Parker. Parker Jackson is just the distraction Aundrea thinks she needs. Some fun, flirting, maybe some hot sex...all without strings. Too bad Parker has other ideas. And there's also the fact that Aundrea isn't telling Parker her secret...because for the first time in four years, someone, who just happens to be ridiculously hot, is looking at her and see her - not the cancer girl. Aundrea's story is one that's gripping and emotional. Her courage in the face of cancer is admirable. Seeing her fears and insecurities as she fights her disease as well as watching her struggles with the side-effects of her treatments made her aversion to commitment understandable. Also, since her diagnosis, Aundrea has felt she needed to be strong for her family. Parker lets her be vulnerable without making her feel weak. And seeing Parker, eventually, break through all Aundrea's barriers was even more touching. Aundrea's realization that she'd found someone who truly sees her...well, that made me cry.  Parker is incredible. He is nothing if not persistent. He's patient and kinda and gentle with Aundrea...even when he doesn't understand her unwillingness to let him close. He's also steady in facing the adveristy involved in being in a relationship with Aundrea. I love him and I love them together. They have so much to overcome yet he staunchly stands by her side knowing they'll face whatever comes together. I really liked Aundrea's sister, Genna, and her husband, Jason. They were a wonderful support net for Aundrea. I also liked Aundrea's friend, Jean, for her ability to know what Aundrea needed and providing it.  What's Left of Me surprised me in its intensity. The descriptions of the diagnosis, treatments, and side-effects enriched the realism of the story. Aundrea's struggle and her strength in facing it was inspiring. And the bond between Aundrea and Parker reinforced my belief in soul mates. This story will make you laugh and ugly cry. But being a part of Aundrea and Parker's journey is well worth the experience.  **I received an eARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.**

Taking on chemo once again to battle the hell out of some cancer that just won't leave her alone, Aundrea is heading off to live with her sister and brother in law. While there she meets Parker. Someone that doesn't know her secret and treats her like any normal girl. And that is exactly the way she wants it. Because Aundrea knows that once Parker finds out, he won't stick around. They never do. But it was supposed to just be fun and flirty. What Aundrea didn't bargain for was falling in love. I seriously was not expecting the emotion this book brought forth. I glanced at a couple of reviews before starting this book and saw a couple comments about tears and what not. Well, I am reading the book and loving what I am reading. But no tears. Maybe I am not human enough? The story is great, excellent even. But I am not feeling the tugging of my heart strings that will bring me to tears. Yet. Then I get to the very end. Yes, the very end that did me end. (Ha! Nice rhyme.) But yes, this ending was enough to choke the life out of me. Holy crap, so did not see it coming. But all in all, I absolutely loved this story. I started it only expecting to get through a couple chapters before bed. And next thing I knew I was half way in and totally succumbed to this story's amazing storyline and fabulous characters. I didn't want out...I didn't want saving. I just wanted to lay peacefully in its world and never leave. I wanted the best for Aundrea and I wanted Parker to come in a save the day. I needed this to happen or I knew I was going to be bawling my eyes out at the end if I didn't get my way. The characters are so unbelievably real. They are easy to love and easy to fall for. It was as if I had known them forever. I wanted Aundrea to beat this...I wanted Parker to be the man I knew he was when and if Aundrea confided in him. And the hell these two went through? Oh dear goodness! This author had to have had some sort of knowledge about the feelings, the emotions, the anger, the rage that goes along with dealing with cancer. How could she not? I was believing anything and everything out of their mouths as if I understood what they were feeling right along with them. It was just that powerful. Is WHAT'S LEFT OF ME a must read? You better believe it. I hope anyone and everyone that reads New Adult is going to pick this bad boy up. I wholeheartedly give this book 5 amazing stars. It tore me up and shredded my insides. Especially that horrible yet glorious ending. Yes, most definitely a must read!

*~*~*~3~3.5 Live life to the fullest stars*~*~*~* Someone once told me that it's not about whether there is life after you die, but whether you're alive before you die. What's Left of Me, is a story about surviving, living, and love.  We are introduced to Andrea McCall.   Andrea isn't your typical 22 year old, she lives her life in fear and never foresees a future.  At 17 years old she was diagnosed with cancer  and went into remission.  It is not until four years later that her cancer comes knocking again at her doorstep.   I refuse to give in. I refuse to back down. I refuse to submit. I refuse to cry.   It is at this point that Andrea decides to move in with her older adopted sister, Genna, so she can receive her treatments.   Andrea decides to blow off some steam and decides to have a girls night out with her best friend.  While succumbing to her best friends chronic banter, Andrea decides to have a one night stand...Andddddddddd voila.. Parker pops into the equation.  One alcohol induced night leads to one smoking sexual encounter. Just when Andrea thought she would never see Parker again she discovers that he works with her brother in law in a veterinary clinic. Luckily for Parker, he was able to convince and forge his way into Andrea's heart but with much difficulty.   As far as Andrea was concerned she didn't want a committed relationship and she definitely did not want to tell Parker about her cancer. But against all internal struggles, Andrea decides to give Parker and their non relationship a try. What ends up blossoming is LOVE <333 I never thought of myself as one of those woman.  The type who get all sappy when a man says they love them, or vice versa, but now I understand why they do, because it's in this moment that I know I've found the person I was meant to be with. Overall, What's Left of Me was an enjoyable read.  I really enjoyed Parker, and they way he became so supportive and caring.   Throughout the book Parker's true intentions and feelings were displayed for Andrea to see.  I never doubted his love for her... Not once...

This book is amazing. Aundrea has cancer but is determined to survive. Parker works for Aundrea brother in law Jason. Aundrea first met Parker at a bar and have a one night stand. My favorite quote "Cancer. It can break you. Or it can make you stronger. I choose stronger. I choose survival." I love how strong Aundrea is and how she fights hard. I highly recommend this book.

This book really hit home. I lost a sister to cancer. I loved how real this book was. I could feel her struggle, her pain, her fear. I found myself crying when i read about how much pain she went through and yet she kept fighting. Parker was an amazing character, strong, funny, sweet, and kind. Everything she needed to keep living, fighting, and trying to survive whatever life threw at her. This book was truly amazing and inspirational. I will gladly read it again and again.
