About the Author

Born with spina bifida, a congenital defect of the spine that has caused him mobility problems, Brian Ritter saw his share of bullying as he went to public school in Northwestern Ohio. However, he truly values the many friendships he formed in school. Brian has been artistic all his life. His gentle and sensitive spirit and his creative abilities led him to become a talented artist at a program called ArtAbility, an art studio for adults with developmental disabilities.

Brian loves to design bright and colorful abstracts and especially enjoys working with acrylics and pen and ink. After painting an abstract of a cat, his friend Angie insisted on working with Brian to write a children’s book about accepting individual differences. This has led to the story of Winston.
