The book “Winter Solstice Winter: A Viking Blood Saga” surprised me, and that is not easy to do. The book starts out predictable enough, as many do, but offered some twists and turns that kept me wondering what the outcome would be. The characters are fairly well developed, although some like the character of Lucia, could use a little more insight. The descriptions of the locations are phenomenal and the parallel storylines are an interesting mix of history, romance and the traditional storyline of good versus evil. What I found most interesting is the subtext. There are numerous references, some obvious and some subtle, to subtext ideas and storylines that those readers who love books for depth would enjoy. Overall, this book is a good read, very enjoyable, and well worth the effort.
