A sequel to Carl M. Tomlinson's Children's Books from Other Countries (Scarecrow, 1998). Following an overview of international children's literature, the volume features titles published in the U.S. from 1996 to 2000. Books may have originally been written in a language other than English and translated. They are arranged by broad areas such as Latin America and the Caribbean, and then by country within that region. Annotations are lengthy enough to give the flavor of the title. Complete bibliographic information and suggested grade levels are included. Resource sections include children's book awards by country, organizations (ALA is omitted, but NCTE is included), a brief list of North American publishers with an international focus, and distributors and publishers of foreign-language and bilingual books. Indexes include author/illustrator/translator, and separate listings for title and subject. The many access points to the titles listed increase the usefulness of the content. Despite some very minor omissions and organizational weaknesses (e.g., looking for England between Denmark and Finland yields no results, and there's no see reference to direct readers to United Kingdom), this is an excellent source for collection development.-Mary Lankford, Library Consultant, Austin, TX Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
