Writing With the Psalms: A Journey in New Thought
It is a tribute to the Psalms’ ability to capture the human condition that so many people have translated, re-written, re-visioned, and unfolded these prayer/songs. Thousands of years after being revealed to a faithful people, they can be meaningful to a person of any denomination or faith. I have over a thousand pages of journal entries about all 150 of these prayers. The pages capture my comments, thoughts, and feelings about each prayer as the meaning unveiled itself to me every morning. As I wrote this book I reviewed my journal entries and edited them into a personal commentary on each psalm. Because I journaled with so many different editions I was able to see the richness and diversity of the material. For this book, I chose to work from the New International Version Study Bible (NIV) Book of Psalms. The NIV is my edition of choice whenever I am looking for a biblical reference. I realize that people generally have a “favorite” version, be it the King James, or the New Revised Standard Edition, the New Living Translation, or the Jewish Psalter, just to name a few. Each of these versions reads a little differently from the others, but the essential meaning of a Psalm does not change. The purpose of the book is to present the psalms using New Thought, or metaphysical language.

About the Author

Lynn Murphy Mark is a retired nurse, teacher, and now an immigration specialist. Her 46 year career as a nurse gave her a broad understanding of human nature. After studying and journaling on the Psalms for years she gained a deep appreciation for their relevance in today's world. Several years ago she joined a Unity church and studies Unity teachings and New Thought concepts. With over 1,300 pages of journal entries for all 150 psalms the idea of "translating" the psalms using metaphysical concepts turned into a book. Each psalm is followed by her reflections from the journal entries.
