• Omega Sol fine (sport) weight acrylic yarn (1¾ oz/164 yds/50g per ball): 1 ball #1022 beige

Sole Edging

Working in ends of rows of Sole and in each sc at toe and heel ends, sc evenly sp around, join(see Pattern Notes) in beg sc.

Upper Section

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in each sc around, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

Note: With stitch markers, mark 36 centermost sts at top of toe for correct toe shaping.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc to first marked st, working in back lp(see Stitch Guide), [dc dec(see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts] 18 times, hdc through both lps of each rem hdc around, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in each hdc to first dec at toe, [dc dec in next 2 sts] 9 times, sc in each rem hdc around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, [sk next st, sc in next st] 4 times, sc in each st around to last 9 sts, sk next sc, [sc in next sc, sk next sc] 4 times, join in beg sc.

Toe Edging

Hold piece with RS facing and toe end at top, join beige with sc in first unused front lp(see Stitch Guide) on rnd 2 of Upper Section, sc in each rem lp across, turn. (36 sc)

Straps

First Strap

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each of first 3 sts, leaving rem sts unworked, turn. (3 sc)

Rows 2–15: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 16 (buttonhole row): Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn. (2 sc)

Row 17: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in last sc, working across next side in ends of rows, sl st in each row across, sl st in each of next 31 sts of Toe Edging, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in each of last 2 sts, turn.

2nd Strap

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in each of last 2 sc, turn.

Rows 2–15: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 16 (buttonhole row): Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1, sk next st, sc in last st, turn.

Row 17: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in last sc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Referring to photo for placement, sew buttons on either side of shoe. Cross straps and button at side to secure.

Note: Toe will be quite wavy at this point.

Size 5–7

Rows 4–9: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately] 3 times.

Row 10: Rep row 2. Do not fasten off.

Size 7½–9

Rows [4–11]: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately] 4 times.

Row 12: Rep row 2. Do not fasten off.

Size 9½–11

Rows [4–13]: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately] 5 times.

Heel Seam

Row 1: Fold last row of heel in half so seam is on inside of heel, working through both thicknesses, sl st evenly across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sl st in each st across.

Turn heel RS out.

Edging

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in end of each row along sides of opening and in each rem 6 unworked sc at top of toe, join in beg sc.

Rnds 2 & 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in beg sc. At end of last rnd, fasten off.

Button Strap

Row 1: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (12 sc)

Rows 2 & 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

Finishing

Referring to photo for placement, sew Button Strap in place at top of toe. Sew buttons at ends of each Strap.

CHAPTER 3

Super Simple Slippers

Materials

• Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky Prints bulky (chunky) weight acrylic yarn (3½ oz/109 yds/100g per skein):

2 skeins #6758 cirrus

• Size K/10½/6.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• Safety pin

Gauge

7 sc = 2 inches; 8 alternating sc and sl st rows = 2 inches

Pattern Notes

The tops of single crochet rows form a "rib," which looks like a chain stitch on the right side of the work. The tops of the slip stitch rows appear on the wrong side. The single crochet rows are worked behind the "rib" rows and into the front loop of the slip stitch row.

For perfectly matched color bands in both slippers, note which color in the variegation series is used at start of first slipper and use the same point in color series for 2nd slipper.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

Slipper

Make 2.

Row 1 (RS): Leaving 18-inch tail, ch 22 [25, 28], sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (21 [24, 27] sc)

Row 2: Sl st in each sc across, turn. (21 [24, 27] sl sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, working in front lp of sl sts (see Pattern Notes and Stitch Guide), sc in each st across, turn.

Row 4: Sl st in each sc across, turn.

Rows 5–26 [5–30, 5–34): [Rep rows 3 and 4 alternately] 11 [13, 15] times.

Row 27 [31, 35]: Ch 1, working in front lp of sl sts, [sc dec(see Stitch Guide) in each of next 3 sts] 7 [8, 9] times, turn. (7 [8, 9] sts)

Row 28 [32, 36]: Ch 1, [insert hook in next sc, pull up lp and leave on hook] 7 [8, 9] times, yo, pull through all lps on hook, remove lp from hook and insert a safety pin in lp to secure. Do not fasten off. (1 sc)

Assembly

Fold Slipper with RS tog, with 18-inch end, sew 2 halves of foundation ch tog to create heel seam.

Fold Slipper with WS tog, place live st on hook, ch 1, working through both layers, sl st in ends of next 7 [8, 9] rows for toe seam. Do not fasten off.

Edging

Ch 2, with RS facing and working around Slipper opening, [sl st in end of next row, ch 1] evenly to center back seam, sl st in seam, [ch 1, sl st in end of next row] evenly to toe seam, sl st in next ch-2 sp. Fasten off.

CHAPTER 4

Hold ends of side section with WS tog. With magenta, sew across ends, forming back seam.

Join Sole

With caramel and RS facing, join yarn with sl st at edge at center back seam of Upper Section.

Working through both Upper Section and Sole, work 1 rnd of sc evenly around outer edge.

Join in first sc.

Fasten off.

Leg

Rnd 1: Beg at center back seam, join magenta at edge, work 44 [48, 52] sc evenly sp around edge at leg opening, join in beg sc. (44 [48, 52] sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3(see Pattern Notes), dc in each dc around. Do not join.
