Super Simple Slippers

• Premier Yarns Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky Prints bulky (chunky) weight acrylic yarn (3½ oz/109 yds/100g per skein):

• Size K/10½/6.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• Safety pin


Gauge

7 sc = 2 inches; 8 alternating sc and sl st rows = 2 inches


Pattern Notes

The tops of single crochet rows form a "rib," which looks like a chain stitch on the right side of the work. The tops of the slip stitch rows appear on the wrong side. The single crochet rows are worked behind the "rib" rows and into the front loop of the slip stitch row.

For perfectly matched color bands in both slippers, note which color in the variegation series is used at start of first slipper and use the same point in color series for 2nd slipper.

Weave in ends as work progresses.

Row 1 (RS): Leaving 18-inch tail, ch 22 [25, 28], sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (21 [24, 27] sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, working in front lp of sl sts (see Pattern Notes and Stitch Guide), sc in each st across, turn.

Row 4: Sl st in each sc across, turn.

Rows 5–26 [5–30, 5–34): [Rep rows 3 and 4 alternately] 11 [13, 15] times.

Row 27 [31, 35]: Ch 1, working in front lp of sl sts, [sc dec(see Stitch Guide) in each of next 3 sts] 7 [8, 9] times, turn. (7 [8, 9] sts)

Row 28 [32, 36]: Ch 1, [insert hook in next sc, pull up lp and leave on hook] 7 [8, 9] times, yo, pull through all lps on hook, remove lp from hook and insert a safety pin in lp to secure. Do not fasten off. (1 sc)


Assembly

Fold Slipper with RS tog, with 18-inch end, sew 2 halves of foundation ch tog to create heel seam.

Fold Slipper with WS tog, place live st on hook, ch 1, working through both layers, sl st in ends of next 7 [8, 9] rows for toe seam. Do not fasten off.


Edging

Ch 2, with RS facing and working around Slipper opening, [sl st in end of next row, ch 1] evenly to center back seam, sl st in seam, [ch 1, sl st in end of next row] evenly to toe seam, sl st in next ch-2 sp. Fasten off.
