Overview

Both his parents having died, Ben Stanton is alone. His uncle has just finished settling Ben's father's estate, and Ben has realized $365.19, a princely sum in the 1880s. He has an offer to work for his uncle in Hampton, his small, East-coast hometown, but he's not interested in working inside. Instead, Ben decides to go to California and search for gold. As you might imagine, and as he comes to learn, Ben's fortune is not at all assured by this decision!
