About the Author

Shane Eversfield has pursued the path of mindful excellence through movement for over 30 years. His experience began with a B.A. in Modern Dance, serving as a principal dancer for two college resident companies (mid-1970s to late 1980s). He began practicing T’ai Chi in 1977, and regards this practice as the best investment of his life. It continues to inform and orient his pursuit of excellence as an endurance athlete. Inspired by his 13 years of living in Kona, he has trained and raced as a triathlete for over 12 years, including 2 Hawaii Ironman finishes and one Ultraman Hawaii finish.
In 2007, at age 50, he enjoyed a 4-month “Zen Rampage”: Lake Placid Ironman (19th in age group), USMS 2-Mile Swim National Championship (5th in age group), 24 Hours of Triathlon (completing 8 miles swim, 141 miles bike, 42 miles run for 1st in age group), Virginia Double Iron (4.2M swim, 224M bike, 52.4M run), JFK 50-Mile Run and (7 days later) NCR Trail Marathon (3:36:18, missing Boston qualification by 19 seconds). “There is nothing super-human about this. It just requires graceful and efficient technique. That is the practice of zendurance. Many athletes have far exceeded this accomplishment.” Continuing the pursuit of athletic excellence in 2008, he placed 8th in his age group at the ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championship and was recognized as a USAT All American.
Shane is a passionate educator within the multisport world, fueled by his love of camaraderie. He has published over 25 articles in triathlete magazines and is currently a contributing editor for Hammer Nutrition Endurance Magazine. Currently, he serves as a Master Coach for Total Immersion Swim, and travels extensively as a TI Workshop Leader and Coach, with his cherished companion, Betsy Laughlin. He is also a Serotta Advanced Bike Fit Specialist, received a USAT Level I Coach Certification in 2004, and periodically teaches T’ai Chi, Zendurance Cycling, and functional core strength for athletes. As of this printing, he is preparing to publish a “vook” (e-book with embedded video) on triathlon cycling technique, and a DVD “T’ai Chi for Endurance Athletes”. Both will be marketed through Total Immersion. Contact Shane at . Many of his writings are archived at www.zendurance.net.
