Chris Crutcher is a young adult fiction novelist and a family therapist. He received the Margaret Edwards Award from the American Library Association in 2000 for his lifetime contribution in writing for teens. Many of his books have been challenged and in some cases banned from classrooms, including his debut novel Running Loose (1983), Athletic Shorts: Six Short Stories (1989), and Whale Talk (2001). Athletic Shorts was loosely adapted into the film Angus in 1995.
