Behind the Scenes of Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives
Hi, friends!
We’re excited to share this “supa” sneak peek from the new Cat Kid Comic Club book by Dav Pilkey, bestselling author and illustrator of Dog Man. Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives, which comes out worldwide on November 30th, is the second book in this pioneering and critically-acclaimed graphic novel series.
Readers will see more stories within a story (yes, new mini comics!) following fan favorite characters Li’l Petey, Flippy, and Molly, together with baby frogs Melvin, Naomi, and their nineteen siblings as they collaborate and see the world from different points of view.
For Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives, Dav stretched his imagination even further and created mini-comics using different mediums including photography, poetry, clay and paper models, calligraphy, and watercolor.
Here’s an exclusive look behind the scenes in Dav Pilkey’s studio!
Dav uses an assortment of art techniques to illustrate his new book. One of Dav’s favorite things to do is build models. He created this robot frog using old cardboard, green paint, wire, and light bulbs.

The finished frog has moveable legs and mouth. You can see that the robot frog’s eyes also light up!
Here you’ll see the three baby frogs, aka the “Baby Frog Squad,” one of the mini comics featured in the new book.
Here is another look at the robot frog with its eyes lit up, with the Baby Frog Squad sliding down its tongue. Dav also made the baby frogs’ mini cars out of the lids of salt shakers that he bought in Japan.
We hope you enjoyed this exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of Cat Kid Comic Club: Perspectives, out in stores November 30th!
