Description: This book covers the gamut of information available regarding musculoskeletal injections. This edition comes with a new title, replacing Injection Techniques in Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, that appeared on the first three editions (1997, 2002, 2006) and provides updated online capabilities as well as the option for an online "trainer."
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a core database for all clinicians engaged in a clinical practice where they perform articular and periarticular aspirations and injections.
Audience: This book will appeal to, and is appropriate for, physicians, physiotherapists, nurses, and other health professionals involved in managing patients with musculoskeletal disorders and sports injuries, whether in the context of primary or secondary care. The author is an established authority in this field.
Features: The book covers the evidence for the efficacy of injection therapy, clinical guidelines, and, finally, the techniques for essentially every type of musculoskeletal aspiration and injection. It does an excellent job of detailing complications and shortcomings of injections. The online Pageburst methodology is innovative and instructive. The references are extensive and current. Because the book is spiral bound, it likely will not last as long as a bound book would.
Assessment: This is a very useful book. The "trainer" is dynamic, providing anatomical landmarks in performing injections. This is a worthwhile addition to the musculoskeletal library.
