Chapter One
Ring ... It was 7:45am. The children exited the school buses and scurried to the front doors of Learning Lane Elementary School. There were so many of them. All anxiously waiting for what another day in elementary school would bring. The principal, Mrs. Wel-Comeall, greeted all of the students as they entered the front doors of the schoolhouse. "Good Morning boys and girls, it's so good to see you today." "Are you ready to learn today?" Principal Wel-Comeall greeted the students with this question every morning. And do you know what the students' answer to that question was every morning?
"Yes, I'm ready to learn!" they would yell excitedly. "Good for you," Principal Wel-Comeall replied.
On most mornings, many students at Learning Lane Elementary School had a good start to the school day by eating breakfast in the school cafeteria.
Principal Wel-Comeall with all of her 5 foot 1 inch height would make her way into the cafeteria every morning just to say hello and talk to the students.
One day Principal Wel-Comeall noticed a student sitting by herself in the school cafeteria. The student looked really sad because she did not have anyone to eat breakfast with her.
Principal Wel-Comeall walked over to the student and said, "Hello. What is your name?" "My name is Jasmyne," said the student. "Jasmyne, why do you look so sad?" asked Principal Wel-Comeall. Jasmyne told the principal this was her first time in an elementary school (Jasmyne was in Kindergarten) and she did not know anyone so she was a little afraid. The principal told Jasmyne not to worry.
Principal Wel-Comeall called another student over to where Jasmyne was sitting and asked the two students to introduce themselves to one another. And do you know what happened after that? The two girls instantly became friends and Jasmyne was not afraid anymore. In fact, Jasmyne even made a new friend and she walked her to her classroom.
The highlight of Principal Wel-Comeall's school day was visiting all of the classrooms at Learning Lane Elementary. She loved to observe students learning when she walked into their classrooms.
Sometimes, Principal Wel-Comeall would join in and participate in the learning. One day, Principal Wel-Comeall strolled into Peter's classroom. Peter loved going to school at Learning Lane Elementary. He had been a student at the school since he was in Kindergarten. But now Peter was in 2nd grade and he wasn't adjusting to school well. You see ... Peter was a little shy. He did not talk to many kids, and he kind of stayed to himself. Peter's teacher, Mrs. Booksrfun, told all of the students to go to their learning stations for the day and then she would come around to each one of the groups to have conversations with them. Peter's group visited the classroom library. All of the other students in Peter's group selected a book to read ... Peter did not. Principal Wel-Comeall stood in the doorway of the classroom for a few minutes and then walked over to Peter.
