The Arbëreshë are a linguistic and ethnic Albanian minority community living in southern Italy, especially the regions of Basilicata, Molise, Apulia, Calabria and Sicily. About the Author

Gjovalin Shkurtaj (1943) was born in Bajze, Shkoder. For forty five years he taught at Tirana University in Albania, as well as at University of Calabria, Italy. He is co-author of Albanian Atlas of Dialectology published in 2007/2008. He has published 15 books on Albanian language, literature and culture, as well as thousand of articles. He also is co-author in many documentary films in Albanian. In 1982 he won the Second prize on the National Documentary Film for "Arbereshet". He is member of the Albanian National Academy of Science.
