He is known for his creator–owned comic Phonogram, created with artist Jamie McKelvie, published by Image Comics, and for numerous projects for Marvel Comics, such as Journey into Mystery and Uncanny X–Men. Gillen has been nominated for numerous awards including six Hugo Awards. He won a GLAAD Media Award for Young Avangers and two British Fantasy Awards for Die and Die, Volume 2: Split the Party.
