About the Author
Linda Watson, the founder of CookforGood.com, created her wildly affordable cooking plans after being inspired by a national challenge to eat on a food-stamp budget. She credits her background in project management helping her to not just survive but thrive on just a dollar a meal per person. Her 2013 SNAPcut Challenge used WAO recipes to cook organic and local even on the newly reduced food-stamp budget. Linda has a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from eCornell and the T. Colin Campbell Foundation. She's had a wildly varied career so far, including developing a top-secret expert system, working with Tom Clancy and Douglas Adams on computer games, and riding the dot-com wave with eGarden.com. Today she teaches cooking through classes, books, and videos. Watson lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband.

I always wanted to eat healthy, but thought that some things were not possible because of cost. Then there was my husband who was pretty demanding about every meal being almost restaurant worthy (variety included). I would try to plan, but things always got in the way, like busy schedules, tiredness, and boredom of repeating certain recipes. This book takes all the planning off my shoulders. I just follow the menus it as listed each week, and that's what we eat, no guessing, no wondering. And ALL recipes are from scratch! I make my own bread, yogurt, pizza, chocolate pudding (to die for!) and I know that I'm putting healthy things in my body and being kind to the environment. This is the cook book that combines all the things we look for: healthy organic meals, convenience, with a pretty slim budget in mind. I wrote to Linda on her website saying that I was so excited about having an empty fridge. I know that sounds weird, but it's so satisfying knowing that I've planned my meals and we are eating all the food and not wasting anything!
This is the 1st cookbooks I actually read through. It has great tips for purchasing as well as making the food. Love it. Will give it as a gift. I especiially like making my own bread without a bread maker.
I bought this book for the variety of vegan friendly recipes, the menu plans by season, and for the authors helpful tips throughout the book. It's a great cookbook and resource guide.
