7 Game of Thrones Predictions for Season 7

The first official trailer for Game of Thrones’ 7th and penultimate season was fine. But to be honest, after almost a year of waiting they could have released a two-minute clip of Littlefinger ominously playing with his mustache and I would have been hyped.
The second trailer on the other hand—released yesterday—had a much more epic feel. It’s the kind of trailer that makes you want to ride around town on a horse, holding a sword, and screaming nonsensical battle cries. (Luckily I don’t have access to a horse or a sword, so I just squealed in my cubicle.)
After carefully analyzing both trailers—and scouring the internet for set pictures—here are 7 predictions for season 7.

Jaime Lannister takes a few steps towards earning a new nickname

All signs are pointing to Cersei giving Aerys Targaryen a run for his money in the crazy department. If that were to happen, someone might need to “slay” her. If one were inclined, they might call that person “Queenslayer”. You see what I did there?!?
In all seriousness, I don’t expect the Mad Queen to die this season. But I fully expect the show to foreshadow, quite heavily, that Jaime is not happy with some of her choices.

Littlefinger’s influence over Sansa grows

The opening narration of the second trailer features everyone’s favorite shady brothel owner giving Sansa advice on how to deal with conflicts in the Seven Kingdoms. The gist is that unlike Jon Snow who prefer the sword, she can use her mind to defeat her enemy. It seems entirely possible Littlefinger might be able to change Sansa’s perception on just who her enemies are. During the Battle of the Bastards she was very upset her “brother” (the Tower of Joy reveal means that will go in quotes for a while) didn’t want to lean on her for advice. I doubt this rift will be getting smaller before it gets bigger.

THERE WILL BE NO LADY STONEHEART

I want everyone to put down their Lady Stoneheart theories, and slowly back away! You heard me. Back…away.

There will be an epic battle in the snow

Judging by snippets in the latest trailer, Beric Dondarrion and his flaming sword will be going to war. It stands to reason this battle will be against the undead, as they tend to hate fire even more than the Hound. My prediction is Jon Snow and the Wildlings joining forces with the Brothers without Banners for one giant skirmish with the White Walkers.

Euron Grayjoy is going to make Ramsay Bolton look sane

There isn’t a lot in the season 7 trailers to hint at what Euron is up to, but the actor that plays him (Pilou Asbaek) has been going out of his way to talk about what a deranged nutjob Theon’s brother is in the coming season. Thrones has a very large baddie void to fill after Ramsay’s passing, and seeing as Cersei will need some allies, I can see his role being quite large this season. Also, he has a way of controlling dragons in the books so….that might come in handy.

Daenerys’ coalition won’t be best buds

Season six ended with an army of ships descending upon Westeros, and while many of the men and women Dany convinced to align with her have a common enemy, I can’t see them becoming friends, exactly. Olenna Tyrell, the Sand Snakes, Tyrion Lannister, Theon and Yara Greyjoy, and Lord Varys are all strong-willed characters with their own vision for the future of Westeros and I can see this union falling apart relatively quickly in the face of adversity. There is so much history and bad blood between these families, it seems impossible it will all be (wait for it)…smooth sailing. (I’d like to apologize to everyone reading this for that joke.)

Season 7 ends with the wall coming down

…and it will be Bran’s fault.
The magic of the Children of the Forest stops the White Walkers from passing through or over this towering structure. Given that Bran’s impatience and recklessness has allowed the Walkers to invade places they have never been able to go before, I could definitely see this happening again. The second trailer shows the Night’s King hovering over Bran, who still seems to be on the north side of the wall. Obviously the Walker’s end game is to get south of the wall, and what better way to accomplish that than to use Bran’s considerable power to do it? Also, his ancestor Bran the Builder was responsible for the wall’s creation thousands of years prior, so that’s a bit of irony. It’s also possible the Bran we know built the wall as part of a time loop scenario that is already making my head hurt.
Be honest though: how ticked off are you going to be when this truncated season ends with the wall crashing down and the White Walkers riding into Westeros, and you have to wait a over a year to see everything gets sorted? I’m considering preemptive therapy.
