What to Read Next Based on Your Favorite Disney Princess
If it’s true that “a dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep,” then our wish is to have all the books—literally all of them—on floor-to-ceiling shelves with one of those cool ladders with wheels we can cruise around on while wearing a tiara and starring in our own private musical. It also wouldn’t hurt to have some magical little mice and birds to bring us iced lattes and snacks.
Obviously we’ve been watching way too many Disney movies (is there a such thing?). If you’re as big a fan of the Mouse House as we are and you share our penchant for YA, then this list of books was tailor-made (sadly, not by a little woodland creature with a sewing needle) for you. Take a moment and think—who’s your favorite Disney princess? Find her on our roundup below, and you’ve got the next YA book for your reading list (and for that awesome floor-to-ceiling bookshelf). Some of the books are adaptations of the classic tales, and some are just reminiscent of or inspired by their protagonists.

Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs): Stitching Snow, by R.C. Lewis
Stitching Snow offers up a dystopian take on the classic Snow White story with a hefty dose of futuristic technology. In what could well have been titled Snow White and the Seven Drones, Essie doesn’t resemble a typical Disney princess—she’s surly and enjoys coding and cage fighting. And initially she’s a rescuer rather than a damsel in distress, after she attempts to save a crash-landed stranger named Dane. But once he realizes Essie is a princess who escaped from her wicked stepmother as a child, he kidnaps her to take back to his own planet, intending to use her as ransom to free his imprisoned father. Amazing world building and strong characters make this a stellar read.

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles #1)
Paperback $9.99
Cinderella (Cinderella): Cinder (Lunar Chronicles Series #1), by Marissa Meyer
Cinder is another tale that tells a classic story with a dystopian twist—but this time, our leading lady is a cyborg. Yes, combine Cinderella and The Terminator, and add a dash of Star Wars, and you’ve got Cinder. Rather than having a knack for cleaning and talking to birds and mice, Cinder is a talented mechanic who has been living with her adopted mother and two stepsisters in New Beijing. Cinder’s world is turned upside down by the outbreak of a plague that afflicts Cinder’s sister, but to which Cinder is immune. For all the futuristic additions, the story still includes a handsome prince and even a palace ball. Cinder is a fast-paced and imaginative story for any glass slipper covetor.
