About the Author

A native South Carolinian, Ginny Lentz, received her biology degree from Queens University (NC) and MS from Old Dominion University (VA). A veteran biology teacher, turned seafood editor-consultant, her first cookbook Fripp Island Fare (1974) evolved into the popular Catch-of-the-Day… Southern Seafood Secrets by surprise. In the summer of 1979, she and her son, Bert Hucks, and a former student, traveled from Florida to Delaware, camping and selling the Catch-of-the-Day along the Atlantic coast. Then the books sold coast to coast. Ginny left the biology labs to do seafood cooking schools and later produced Fish Without Fuss… Seafood Simplified. She studied seafood cookery at Culinary Institute of America (NY), L’Academie de Cuisine in Maryland, Tante Marie’s in San Francisco and Johnson and Wales College of Culinary Art (Charleston, SC).

After selling 50,000 copies, the travel demands of the cookbooks and her other publications led Ginny to become a more anchored investment broker. She later moved to the Asheville in 1989 with her son, and is celebrating her 25th year as a real estate broker… and 40th anniversary of the inception of Catch-of-the-Day!

In the spring of 2014, Southern Living magazine called to say they would be featuring Catch-of-the-Day… in their August issue. Since the Catch… was out of print, her son suggested she publish an e-book.

For his encouragement, this e-edition is dedicated to Bert… and for his technical support, it is dedicated to her husband, Jack Poisson. (Yes… she married Mr. Fish!!!)
