Holiday travel is full of potential mishaps and hilarity—especially for the Heffleys. But what’s supposed to be a chill Christmas vacation turns into a holiday nightmare. Yikes!

We might get some insight into Kinney’s own travel experiences. “I’ve traveled quite a bit over the last few years, and I’ve realized there’s a ton of comedic potential in airplane travel,” says Kinney. “And when a family like the Heffleys is involved, the possibility of something going hilariously wrong multiplies.”

Our imaginations are running wild about the book’s title. So far, all we’ve seen of the cover is an anxious-looking Greg flying up, up, and away in an airplane above the clouds against a brilliant blue sky, accompanied by the text “11.7.17”—the book’s release date. What could the title possibly be? Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wish You Were Here—Instead of Me? Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Worst Vacation Ever? Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Nightmare Before Christmas? Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Holidazed?

We’re not just getting one new Wimpy Kid book—but two! On May 9, Kinney will be coming out with an entirely original movie diary, The Wimpy Kid Movie Diary: The Next Chapter, just in time for the release of the 20th Century Fox film Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, based on Kinney’s book of the same name—the ninth in the bestselling series. Unlike the previous three Wimpy Kid movies, this one will feature an entirely new cast and takes place one year after the events of the last movie, Dog Days. In it, Greg and his brother, Rodrick, hatch a plan to go to a video game convention by convincing their family to go on a road trip to celebrate their grandmother’s 90th birthday. And hilarity naturally ensues!

What are you excited to see in the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book?
