Next from Jim Butcher: The Cinder Spires
For a young guy, Jim Butcher has an impressive bibliography that already includes two of the most popular fantasy series of the past decade. He’s about to add a third, with the official announcement of the first book in The Cinder Spires set for September 29, 2015 from Roc Books.
Butcher’s long-running, incredibly popular Dresden Files series follows modern-day “consulting wizard” Harry Dresden as he battles the vampires, demons, and all manner of supernatural creatures on the windy streets of Chicago. After 15 books, graphic novels, games, and a TV series, each new installment is guaranteed to top best-seller lists. His six-book Codex Alera series, slightly more traditional in its fantasy but no less fun, ended a couple of years back.

The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut's Windlass
By Jim Butcher
Hardcover $27.95
The new series, beginning with The Cinder Spires: The Aeronauts Windlass, takes Butcher into steampunk territory. It promises airships, pirates, the rise of a dark evil, and all of the crazy creatures that have become the author’s hallmark. Sounds good to us.
Here’s the official blurb:
Since time immemorial, the Spires have sheltered humanity, towering for miles over the mist-shrouded surface of the world. Within their halls, aristocratic houses have ruled for generations, developing scientific marvels, fostering trade alliances, and building fleets of airships to keep the peace.
Captain Grimm commands the merchant ship, Predator. Fiercely loyal to Spire Albion, he has taken their side in the cold war with Spire Aurora, disrupting the enemy’s shipping lines by attacking their cargo vessels. But when the Predator is severely damaged in combat, leaving captain and crew grounded, Grimm is offered a proposition from the Spirearch of Albion—to join a team of agents on a vital mission in exchange for fully restoring Predator to its fighting glory.
And even as Grimm undertakes this dangerous task, he will learn that the conflict between the Spires is merely a premonition of things to come. Humanity’s ancient enemy, silent for more than ten thousand years, has begun to stir once more. And death will follow in its wake…
