The Descendants Series Shines a Spotlight on Mulan’s Daughter with School of Secrets: Lonnie’s Warrior Sword

In this fourth book in the series, Lonnie is eager to secure her birthright—the sword that used to belong to her mother—to use now that she’s about to be inducted as team captain for her school’s R.O.A.R. team. However, she soon realizes she must first prove her worthiness to the Imperial Council, who oversees this ancient relic in the Hall of Wisdom, before it can be hers. And she’s going to need a little help from her friends Jay, son of Jafar, and Jordan, daughter of Genie, if she has any hope of succeeding. The three embark on a trip to the Imperial City where Lonnie will participate in the ultimate competition to prove herself a true warrior.
Superfans of Disney’s original Mulan will note several similarities between Lonnie’s story and her mother’s. Just like Mulan, Lonnie must undergo intense training to compete against those that are older, stronger, and more experienced than her—and thanks to Jay, she’s in good hands. And although Lonnie doesn’t have to pretend to be a man like her mother did, she does have to participate in the competition in disguise—she would be in big trouble with her parents and her school if they found out she snuck away to the Imperial City. Luckily, Jordan can wield a makeup brush just as well as Lonnie can a sword. And finally, readers will see that the warrior apple doesn’t fall far from the heroic tree when they witness Lonnie’s perseverance in the face of adversity, including at least one competitive participant who definitely isn’t going to play fair.

But will all of this be enough for Lonnie to win the Auradon Warrior Challenge without getting caught and prove to the Imperial Council that she’s worthy of the famous sword of Shan-Yu? Young readers will have to find out for themselves in this creative and fast-paced page-turner that will keep everyone guessing until the very end.
In addition to all the exciting action, fans of the series will also appreciate appearances by other Descendants’ faves like Mal, daughter of Maleficent; Evie, daughter of Evil Queen; King Ben, son of Belle and Beast; Freddie, Dr. Facilier’s daughter; and more.
