Barnes & Noble hosted its second Kids’ Book Hangout for children in grades 1 through 6. We celebrated imagination with a day of activities, free swag, and 20% off featured titles in-store. Guided activities sparked social and word play with group mad libs; ice-breaker charades; drawing exercises, and cardboard-mask creation inspired by the book Cardboard Kingdom.
See the event’s books below and check back soon for details on our next event!
Themed goodies from all the day’s featured books kept the fun going at home and select stores gave out a premium swag bag and advance book copies.
"For Squirm, I had an idea to write about a boy trying to track down his real father, who had some mysterious, faraway job. I set part of the story in Florida and part of it in Montana, which is my second favorite place in the country. Billy, the main character, is my favorite. All the cool stuff – and the scary stuff – happens to him. Kids from Florida don't have much experience dealing with grizzly bears, so there's a steep learning curve for Billy. He's also the one who ends up bringing two very different families together, which also requires a special skill set." – Carl Hiaasen
