What is an Audiobook MP3?

An Audiobook MP3 is a digital audiobook that you can download and listen to with a portable device, such as an iPod or other MP3 player or on a computer. MP3 is the name of a digital file format.


How do I get my Audiobook MP3?

After you complete your B&N.com purchase, we'll send you two emails, usually within 5 minutes or less of placing your order. The second email will have a link to download your Audiobook MP3. In order to play the MP3, you'll also need to download the Media Console. This free program allows you to download Audiobook MP3s, listen to them, and transfer them to other mobile devices, including burning to a CD if you wish. The console also serves as your audiobook library.

IMPORTANT: You must download your Audiobook MP3 by June 30, 2014. After June 30, 2014, BN.com no longer supports MP3 titles and you will not be able to access your MP3 purchase from your Barnes and Noble account.

What if I accidentally delete the email?

No problem. Simply visit your Order Status page by June 30, 2014 and click on the Download button next to the Audio book MP3 title in question. You can download your audiobook up to three times this way. After that, you will have to contact Customer Support to request additional downloads. Note: You must download your Audiobook MP3 by June 30, 2014. After that date, BN.com no longer supports MP3 titles and you will not be able to access your MP3 purchase from your Barnes and Noble account.

What kind of devices do I need to listen to an Audiobook MP3?

You can listen on devices running iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, as well as Windows and Mac desktop platforms.

Can I listen in my car?

Yes. Depending on your vehicle's sound system, you should have several options: linking up your iPod or other MP3 player through a cable or Bluetooth connection; plugging in a USB thumb drive, SD card, or other type of memory device; or playing a CD that you've burned on your computer.


What if I have a technical problem?

If you have difficulty with your Audiobook MP3 download, call Customer Support at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665). If you are calling from outside the United States, dial 201-559-3882. Note: You must download your Audiobook MP3 by June 30, 2014. After that date, BN.com no longer supports MP3 titles and we will be unable to assist you.


Can I return an Audiobook MP3 or get a refund?

If you have compatibility or quality issues with an Audiobook MP3, or are otherwise dissatisfied with your purchase, please call Customer Service at 1-800-THE-BOOK (1-800-843-2665) for a refund. You may also send an email.


How do I install the Media Console on my computer?

For Windows

Installing the Media Console on your computer is an easy process. It only needs to be done when you purchase your first Audiobook MP3.

After you click the Download the Media Console for Windows link, follow these instructions:
  1. Click "Run" when the File Download dialog box appears.
  2. Click "Run" again on the Internet Explorer box.
  3. Click "Next" on the Overdrive Media Console Setup Wizard box.
  4. Select "I Agree" and "Next" after you read the License Agreement.
  5. Click "Next" on the Select Installation Folder box.
  6. Click "Next" on the Confirm Installation box.
  7. Then click "Close" on the Installation Complete box.
The Media Console can then be run from a shortcut on your Desktop or from your Start Menu.

For Mac

Installing the Media Console on your computer is an easy process. It only needs to be done when you purchase your first Audiobook MP3.

After you click the Download the Media Console for Mac link, follow these instructions:
  1. Double click on the file on the Desktop.
  2. Double click on the Overdrive Media Console icon.
  3. Click "Continue" on the Overdrive Media Console Setup Wizard box.
  4. Select "Continue" and "Agree" after you read the License Agreement.
  5. Click "Continue" on the Select a Destination box.
  6. Click "Install" on the next box.
  7. Click "Close" when installation is complete.
You can then access the Media Console from the Applications folder.
