Help Desk: Search the Store: Textbooks
There are several ways to look for books. Quick Search uses a single field such as title, author, or keyword. Multiple ISBN Search allows you to use ISBN numbers to find all of your books at once. Advanced Search allows you to combine fields to narrow your search.

General Search Tips

Quick Search, Multiple ISBN Search, and Advanced Search all search our entire book catalogue. Quick Search is a single-field search. Multiple ISBN Search allows you to find all of your books at once, using ISBN numbers. Advanced Search allows you to search a combination of fields.

Searching by Title
Enter all or part of the title you are looking for. You can leave out words such as "a," "an," or "the." The search engine will try to find books that have all the words you entered in the title. If no books are found with all the words, the search engine will try to find books with some of the words.

Searching by Author
Enter all or part of the author name you are looking for. You do not need to enter a first name, but if there are a lot of books by authors with the same last name it may help to limit the results. You can enter a name as John Smith or Smith, John.

Keyword
The keyword search looks for all the words you entered relating to the title, author, subjects, and categories of books. For example, if you search on "United States Civil War," the search results page will display all books that contain "United States Civil War" in the title or author name, as well as books that are about the "United States Civil War." You can be as general (e.g., "Cooking") or as specific (e.g., "Italian Baking") as you wish. Be aware that if you select "keyword," your search results may be very long. You should choose "title" or "author" if you know that is what you are looking for.

Searching by ISBN
An ISBN is the ten-digit number, usually printed on the back of a book along with a bar code, that serves as a unique identifier for that book. This search will get you the exact title and edition that you need. Locate the ISBN number on your book and enter the code into the Quick Search or Multiple ISBN Search field. There is no need to include dashes or the letters "ISBN." The search engine will not recognize these characters.

Formatting Your Search
It is not necessary to use any special characters in formatting your search. Simply enter the words you are looking for. Quotation marks, plus signs, or Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) will be ignored by the search engine. The search engine is case-insensitive. You can enter your search in all capitals, all lowercase, or mixed case.
