    my epiphany

This is a fascinating book. I could do the exercises all day. It stimulates lots of new ideas about many subjects. After wasting way too much time on this book in the hope that it would help me with my novel, I realized that it was diverting but not helpful.

An Intelligent, Unusual Book on Writing

This book is an intelligent book on creative writing, giving ideas to stir your imagination in ways you never thought of. Some of the ideas I'd never heard of, but they got me thinking. It's a difficult book in some of its suggestions, but you will find some very unusual techniques that can help you write more creatively and better. It's not one of the run-of-the-mill ideas books you've probably already read. Each chapter ends with suggestions for writing, and you can skip around and try some techniques that most interest you, as well as the harder suggestions that could surprise you. I highly recommend this book as one of the few to really get your hands on!

    Some Great Stuff, Some Chaff

Never patronizing like most Writer's Digest books, never too esoteric like Gardner's Art of Fiction can be, the 3 AM Epiphany is a book I would not hesitate to recommend to students of writing and to the occasional professional writer looking for a jumpstart. Many of the exercises are extremely helpful and can get you into the right frame of mind for writing. Some exercises are perhaps more useful for budding writers than more experienced ones and some I'm unsure of their usefulness. I would recommend King's On Writing or Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird before I would recommend this, however.
