Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2 Jason is awakened by the sounds of his father's sleepwalking and finds him asleep on top of the refrigerator. After returning him to bed, he is later awakened to find father asleep in the bathtub and later on top of the car in the garage. The fourth time it is footprints in the snow that lead him to a stiff father who must be thawed in the bathtub. He then ties one end of a piece of rope to his father's toe and another to his bed to limit the walks. It is his mother who is awakened in the final picture to find Jason asleep on top of the refrigerator and father asleep midstep with a toe tied to a piece of rope. What starts off as a humorous idea is run into the ground with repetition in the text so that even the humor of the final picture is lost in the stupidity of the story. The humorous illustrations are large and colorful with a page of text facing each one, but the story rates a zero. Nancy A. Gifford, Schenectady County Public Library, N.Y.

Just Right those Really Cold Days

I bought this book for a fun read on those really cold days at school.

    50 Below Zero

Reading the book is just like watching World Baseball Competition! I felt excited when I turned every page. I was wondering where the dad, the sleepwalking guy, supposed to go. Jason, the guyâ¿¿s son, couldnâ¿¿t stand and helped his dad get back. However it was always useless. I canâ¿¿t image how he could in 50 below zero. The ending inspired me, too. I hope Jason wonâ¿¿t sleepwalk out of the house like his dad. It is cold outside. I really appreciate Robert Munsch for his crazy imagination and good sense of humor. In sum, 50 below Zero is the most beloved book.

    50 Below Zero

Itâ¿¿s too ridiculous. I canâ¿¿t imagine how people sleepwalk. What a strange father in this story. He always shows up in the unusual place. When I read the sentence,â¿ Itâ¿¿s 50 below zero outside.â¿ I think,â¿ Wow! This dad can go for a competition or break the worldâ¿¿s record. The boy canâ¿¿t put up with his father. But he sleepwalks at last, too. I think itâ¿¿s an interesting ending. I enjoy this book. Itâ¿¿s funny and I never read this kind of story before. The writer is great because he makes up a story of a bad habit
