Whether novice or knot enthusiast, readers are reminded of the foundations: More than a dozen knots (overhand, lark’s head, picot, among others) as well as patterns, a list of dyeing equipment, and several how-to’s. Tips, such as what to do if you run out of string in the middle of a project, are welcome. (There's more than one approach, by the way.) Instructions are more than adequate, including skill level, time required, knots used, materials, equipment, preparation, and photographs of the more difficult steps. Projects run the gamut of traditional and contemporary design, the latter showcased in a rug, mirror hanger, and curtain tieback. Once again, the adage is true: What’s old is new.
