Book 2 in the Area 51 series
When they uncovered the truth about Area 51, scientist Lisa Duncan and Special Forces officer Mike Turcotte revealed the secret history of decades of UFO sightings and extraterrestrial contact. But that history goes back much further than they could have possibly imagined...
Hidden deep beneath the waters around Easter Island is a giant supercomputer called the Guardian, and it has just sent a message into outer space. When the reply comes, it will signal the execution of an alien plan millennia in the making; after five thousand years, "they" are coming back. But who are they and what do they want?
As the extraterrestrials race toward Earth, Duncan and Turcotte must scramble across the globe, from the Rift Valley of Ethiopia to an ancient Chinese tomb, to determine the aliens' true intentions. If they fail, first contact with these visitors could mean last rites for the human race.

The text was riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. At one point a page was partially missing leaving the reader totally lost. I was surprised that B&N would let something like this get into public hands. This is the second electronic book I've run across from B&N with these problems. I do know I will trash the Nook and head to the Kindle if I find many more "books" like this one. Now, if you can get by these errors, the story itself was great.

Now that we know we're not alone, Doherty continues the saga of what happens in our relations to the Airlia. There are some nice twists to the plot. In addition, several of the characters from the first are back as are new characters; always good to keep the story fresh.

Area 51: The Reply is one of the most exciting science fiction books that I have ever read! It was compelling from beginning to end and left me wondering at the end of every chapter. Each chapter left me hooked and I desperately wanted to read the next one. Doherty creatively and vividly describes smaller plots taking place with various characters and eventually links them all together. The action never stops as appalling events constantly occur. It includes riveting historical facts and opinions that can convince anyone that we are not alone in this universe. Doherty clearly demonstrates that government corruption still exists and develops questions about our governments today.

Area 51, The Reply was an excellent follow up to the previous book Area 51. It was easy to follow and very factual in some areas.

Interesting storyline. Lots of character suspense. The following books become less believable and not as interesting.

The Area 51 series has turned out to be a very solid sci-fi read. The premise of the stories is plausible and Bob Mayer writes an excellent story. Characters are very believable and the book turns out to be a real page turner.

I haven't read this one but the first was great. I do resent people giving a poor rating to a book because of typos and error not edited out after scanning the book. I Agree, the editing could stand some improvement, but don't run down individual authors or their books. Read through it, for gosh sakes. And by the way, it not just Barnes and Noble ebooks. Amazon ebooks have the same issues.

This is a really good book. All of Bob Mayer's books are pleasing though. Don't get me wrong, it isn't Shakespeare, but they're all good, fast, easy, and eminently entertaining reads. They keep me glued to the plot and wondering what will happen next. I think one of the best things about Mayer's books is that there is almost never any downtime. The plot moves along at a rapid pace that it's hard to believe that anyone can maintain as a writer. Kudos to Mayer for that. Even the characters begin to feel somewhat beaten down from the pace of events in the book. The main character in this particular book, a US Army Special Forces Captain, said near the end of the book that he was beginning to feel tired. The type of tired that he'd experienced in Ranger school and in combat, the overwhelming exhaustion that leads to making mistakes. I would be tired too if that was me going through all this!
