Meet the Author

I am the author of The Arrival and Awakening, books one and two of the BirthRight Trilogy, as well as an erotic short story, A Wet & Wild night (it was an experiment ;p). As an avid reader from a young age I've recently ventured into writing and I'm loving the journey. My favorite books were always those with strong, independent female leads so that's—not surprisingly—influenced my writing.
The rise of ebooks offers independent authors (indie authors) such as myself a fantastic opportunity to share my work with the world, even though I'm situated down at the bottom of the globe (a kiwi and proud of it!) I love chatting with readers and writers and you can easily get in touch with me via my blog or facebook fan page.

    AWESOME must read book!!

AWESOME!! Despite being skeptical of the fantasy genre I was pleasantly surprised and left wanting more. I struggled to put this book down and despite my busy schedule found myself trying to read it any free moment I had to find out what happened next. I actually ended up waking early for work one morning with the book still open in front of me having read until at least 3am. Made concentrating at work the next day a struggle but was definitely worth it! haha The avid descriptions throughout the book draw you in making you feel a part of the story and the characters are believable and easily related with. My favourite scene would definitely have to be the 'battle' scene where the 4 girls first become aware of the unusual creatures in their 'new world' and are faced with a life threatening situation. The descriptions keep you on the edge of your seat, worrying for the girls and simultaneously wondering what you would do if faced with the same situation. You feel their pain, fear, hope, curiousity and determination all at once! Loved this book and CANNOT wait for the next book in the trilogy. Definitely worth the amazingly cheap price!!!

    Awesome

I rather enyoed this book. At first it was a bit confusing who was doing the talking since the author switches between charators so often. But once i got the hang of it it was fine. I would recommend this book. Bring on book 2, please, now!

    I'm in love...

At first, I really was thinking it might not be that well but when I noticed that I kept wanting to read more and more of the story I knew that I was hooked. The very end had me shocked to the point of wanting the next book to be out already. HaHa. This book is excelent for people who love action and romance all rolled into one.

Ladies, this one is for us!

The only negative thing I can say about this book is that the sequel doesn't arrive until December. Oh well, guess the positive is that I'm going to have a GREAT Christmas.
Thank you Nicole for deciding to try your hand at writing. Refreshing, well written, not a typical "chick-lit" from the romance "book-mill". A must read for all.

    Riveting!!

I read this book in one setting. The elementals characters are a new and very refreshing spin to sci fi fantasy. This story is appealling with an easy flow to the visual writing it portrays. I felt transported to the scenes I read, and wait eagerly for the next in this series.

Read this book! Great first Novel. I'm sure we'll be seeing more from Ms. Macdonald

This book is an adventure and a half. It had me laughing and turning green with envy over Nicole's eye for detail. I love a good fantasy meets sci-fi novel. Think Lord of the Rings meets a really interesting and witty chick lit book. At first I was afraid I would be thrown off by the switching point of views. I knew she was going to do it, but I hadn't quite prepared myself for how it would work. But it did work out well. It is actually a very interesting way to read a book. You get to try on different characters and see their point of view.

I enjoyed the relationship between the four girls. Their absolute loyalty to one another really stuck out to me. Their interactions never seemed contrived and pretty steadfast to how I see my friends and I interacting. I loved all of the love interests for each of the girls. I felt that Nicole matched them all very well with someone who would challenge them and bring them out of their shells, but do it in a unique way.

My most favorite aspect of this book is Nicole's keen eye for detail. I felt like I could see it all unfold in my mind. Which to me, is a sign of a great novelist. I found myself wanting to see the Griffin take flight and their varying colors of feathers matched with their lion-like manes. Oh and what I wouldn't give to have an Ada in real life to make my wardrobe sing.

My only grievance was the ending!!! I wanted more, which just means I'll be picking up the second book the second she releases it. I sort of felt like she ended it on the climax. I needed that payoff. But other than that, which may or may not be a good thing to others, I loved the book.

Nicole my hat is off to you on your first novel out the gate.

    The Arrival a Fun Read!

The Arrival is the first book in the Birthright Trilogy by Nicole MacDonald. I must say when I first started to read The Arrival, I had my doubts. The main characters Cat, Kassie, Sian and Loi seemed very one dimensional and lacked depth. But as the book progressed, I realized this was a result from the author's writing style. From the very first page the author jumps around from different points of view, which makes for a very confusing read. This distraction took away from the lure of the characters and left me frustrated.

As I continued to read, I was surprised to find myself caught up in the second half of the book. Once I got used to the different POVs it gave a bit more insight into the interactions between characters and added depth to both the characters and the story. One of the things that I loved most about this story was Nicole MacDonald's descriptions of the fantasy creatures. Through her words the Griffon came to life within this story in such a vivid way.

This book lays the groundwork for the next two in the trilogy. For this tale builds slowly as you watch the characters develop and the plot starts to take shape. This story comes to a head in the most unexpected way that leaves you wanting to have the next book in hand.

The Arrival brings nothing new to the Fantasy Genre, but it is an entertaining love story with a magical twist, and damsels in dirty dresses save the day. So if you are in the mood for an easy and fun read then this book is for you.

Nicole MacDonald is a self published author from New Zealand.

Loved this book! Different from anything I've read, the unusual

Loved this book! Different from anything I've read, the unusual style took a few chapters to get used to and then I was away. Like other reviewers have mentioned, I couldn't find the second book Awakening on B&N so had a hunt and found it on the authors blog site. B&N should get in touch with the author and get it on here! Book two was even better and now I have to wait till Dec for the final installment!!! Feels like forever. For readers who love fantasy with a twist (and no vampires/werewolves sparkly or otherwise) I recommend giving The Arrival a shot, it's free so why not!

    very good book

I almost put the book down in the begining because I couldn't fiqure out who the author was writing about. It seems she jumps from character to character. But I held out and I'm glad I did. The book had action and romance. Plus it is also nice to see some girls kick butt for a change. Can't wait to read more.
