Major periods, each reviewed in separate chapters, include prehistoric art, Ancient Near Eastern art, Egyptian art, Aegean art, Greek art, Etruscan art, Roman art, Byzantine art, Islamic art, early medieval European art, art of the Romanesque and Gothic periods, Italian and Northern European Renaissance art, the Baroque Rococo, Neoclassical eras, and art of the late 19th and entire 20th centuries, leading to the art movements of today. A diagnostic exam precedes the chapters surveying art history, and two full-length AP practice exams are presented at the end of the book with answer keys, diagnostic charts, and answer explanations. The text is profusely illustrated.

    Move Over Annotate Mona Lisa!

I have to say, taking the job of creating an AP Art History seems very pain-staking and an elaborate job needs to be done. This book does it. It starts with the usual AP Exam information, what is on it, etc. It also adds some witty remarks here and there so the reading is not too dull. It also has helpful tips for all the sections, and even gives examples of possible questions and appropriate answers. Afterwards, it has a neat section on what questions the Exam would ask, such as what is symbolized or who was the patron, and what it would not, which I thought was a perfect extra. After that is the diagnostic test. This is for students who just got the book on March or April and have been taking the course. It shows how you have retained. It comes with 115 multiple-choice, as well as the 9 free-response. Let me tell you, I got half wrong, which got me a little scared. It makes you realize what type of questions are going to be asked and prepares you for them. For the free-response, it has sample essays to help you grade your own. The chapters follow the test. They go chronologically, just as they should, beginning with Prehistoric all the way to Modern. Following each chapter are 10 questions and a short free-response question. What I like about the chapters themselves, however, is that they list only the most important works, and then BULLET POINT all the information about them. The bullet points makes it SO much easier to read quickly and it is not as boring and flat as if it were paragraphs. It does not waste time with extra information, it only states the necessary facts. Lastly, after the chapters come the two practice AP Exams. They look just like the real one so it sets the mood to how it would truly be. I have not gotten to this part yet so I can not comment much of it. Overall, I think it is a necessity to all in the AP Art History course. The size is larger than average, but it just goes to show Art History is not for the weak of heart. The reading is not too terribly dull either, as seen on other AP Study books. I still enjoy reading the Annotated Mona Lisa, but what that book lacks this book has. I believe they go hand-in-hand. In short: I highly recommend it.

Extremely Helpful - A MUST BUY for AP Art History Students

This book was so helpful! Wether it be studying for individual tests or the AP test itself, this book was a godsend. It was easy to understand, detailed, and worth every penny. The provided practice tests and sample essays greatly improved my knowledge and understanding. The style and organization make this book easy to read and helpful. I am convinced that this book is the reason why I did well on the AP exam. BUY IT seriously.

    my favorite book

I am a math and science person but my teacher suggested I take art history because they thought I would love the subject. I was skeptical at first but I do not regret it. One of the reasons for this is because of this book. Every night before a test I just take out this book and I have an "A" in the class. The practice questions and essays really prepare me for what is to come and nothing is a surprise. The amount of information in this book never ends and there is more than I even learn in class. It is like I have a second teacher. I know I will be more than prepared for the AP with all this extra information. If I ever decide to take this course in college I would definitely bring this book with me. I told my teacher to use this instead of the textbook. Whoever the author is, Thank you so much!!!!

    Best Book

I recently just got this book and it is amazing!! I can't believe I just found it. The pictures next to the description are a great visual. The description makes everything simple and I understand it more. I now feel more confident for the AP and I can't wait to read on.

    Highly Recommended! It really helped!

I have used this book for my AP class last year and it helped me pass my AP. The information is really easy to comprehend. It is written in bullet points so it does not make the text boring or dull. At the end of each section, there are multiple choice questions pertaining to the topic and a few essay questions. This gives you a sense of what to write and how to answer the question. A great thing about this book is that it gives you a background about the time period in which the art was from. Overall, it is a really helpful book and should be invested in. You won't regret making this purchase.
