I am a huge Lee fan. I haven't read a story of his that I have not loved. He is one of the premiere names in Splatterspunk and The Bighead is his most Hardcore work to date. It is the most Vile, Gut Wrenching, Twisted story I have ever read, and I loved every minute of it. The story had me drawn in from the first page. Lee has a writing style that grabs your attention early, and before you know it the Sun is rising and your legs have fallen asleep. It seems like that happens to me every time I read one of his stories. I could not put the Bighead down. I have only read a few stories that made me queasy, but The Bighead literally had me gagging. I thought I was going to loose my lunch on a few different occasions. There was a particular scene that permanently ruined me on Fresh Water Clams. I will never been able to eat another one as long as I live. I recommend The Bighead to anyone who thinks their shockproof. I can promise you that you have never read anything like this. The Bighead will stay with me for a very VERY long time. Five Stars

This book is pretty gross to read. I have a strong stomach, but this is an extreme horror novel. It is long. You have a few storylines to follow. The two girls from the city. One is a journalist writing about Appalacchia named Jerrica. The other girl was removed from her aunt's house, then sent to live at an orphanage until she was 18. Charity and her new journalist friend are staying at her aunt's boarding house. Then, there is the priest who is working to open an old rehab/hospice for other priests. I really liked the priest, Alexander, and Charity alot. Jerrica is pretty cool, too, even if she is a sex addict.
Next, are the bad guys who do all manner of bad things. Balls and Dicky are two back country moon shine runners. They are bad news to anyone that they meet. They rape, steal, murder, torture, and mutilate any person unlucky to be caught alone with them. Finally, you follow The Bighead (yep, that is his name) as he searches for the "outside world" after his Granpappy dies. He is not only hideously deformed, and a true omnivore (includes cannibalism, and raw meat), but he also kills everyone that he meets. Or, is it meats? :)
Very extremely disconcerting to read about the bad guys. This contrasts, at the beginning, with the happy sunlit lives of the girls and priest. To be honest, the only reason that continued through this disgusting display, was the dichotomy between light and dark. Edward Lee is known for extreme violence, and never calling the bad guys "evil" or his protaganists "good". Expect all that and more in this book.
