K.J. Dahlen's Bones is AWESOME! I absolutely loved the way she was able to instantly grip me with the suspense of the story and pull me into the heart of it. From the beginning, it was a whirlwind of puzzle pieces that needed to be put together to find the truth. Sheriff Max Reardon is a character that is complex. He's ex FBI, small town sheriff, and now a target for a killer who doesn't want the answer to the truth known. Taking the word of two young boys, Max sets out in search of an "ancient Indian burial ground" in a cave. What he finds is so much more......and so much WORSE. Bones. Bones of bodies that still have clothing on them. Someone didn't want these found, and now Max will pay.....Max will do what it takes to keep himself alive, protect his town AND make sure that everyone knows the truth. I could feel myself becoming Max, and seeing the bones and the evidence, through HIS eyes. I could feel the intensity of the crime and the need to find out exactly what happened and why. Mixed with the secondary characters like Joey and Hunter, Max's character becomes more defined and truly becomes a part of the reader's heart. Following the clues, piecing the puzzle together....all of it was awesome! I definitely recommend this amazing book with a high flying 5 Book rating! You'll be swept away on a fabtasteriffic story of complexity and mystery. Rollercoaster ride doesn't even BEGIN to describe what you'll feel as you're on the case with Max. I am looking forward to going back and reading more of Ms. Dahlen's work, as well as adding her future pieces to my wish list! GREATASTIC job, Ms. Dahlen!
