Overview

Based on the award-winning 10-million-plus-hit blog 1000awesomethings.com, The Book of Awesome is a high five for humanity and a big celebration of life's little moments:

• Popping Bubble Wrap
• Wearing underwear just out of the dryer
• Fixing electronics by smacking them
• Getting called up to the dinner buffet first at a wedding
• Watching The Price Is Right when you're home sick
• Hitting a bunch of green lights in a row
• Waking up and realizing it's Saturday

Sometimes it's easy to forget the things that make us smile. With a 24/7 news cycle reporting that the polar ice caps are melting, hurricanes are swirling in the seas, wars are heating up around the world, and the job market is in a deep freeze, it's tempting to feel that the world is falling apart. But awesome things are all around us-sometimes we just need someone to point them out.

The Book of Awesome reminds us that the best things in life are free (yes, your grandma was right). With laugh-out-loud observations from award- winning comedy writer Neil Pasricha, The Book of Awesome is filled with smile-inducing moments on every page that make you feel like a kid looking at the world for the first time. Read it and you'll remember all the things there are to feel good about.

The Book of Awesome reminds us of all the little things that we often overlook but that make us smile. With touching, warm, and funny observations, each entry ends with the big booming feeling you'll get when you read through them: AWESOME!

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Neil Pasricha's 1000awesomethings.com had an inauspicious beginning, but since its 2008 takeoff, its unpretentious affirmations have won Best Blog awards and attracted 10 million plus visitors. The Book of Awesome continues Pasricha's good works by gathering together celebrations of life's little pleasures that we can all appreciate. For example: Hitting a bunch of green lights in a row; wearing underwear just out of the dryer; waking up and realizing it's Saturday; and, last but far from least, popping bubble wrap. Truly awesome. Now in paperback and NOOKbook.

Publishers Weekly
In this adaptation of his blog www.1000awesomethings.com, Pasricha celebrates the simple pleasures of everyday living. Focusing on both tangible pleasures and simple experiences, Pasricha provides a contemporary take on everyday inspiration that skips the typical Chicken Soup for the Soul fare: "When you push the button for the elevator and it's already there," ("Ding!"); "When the boss goes out of town" ("Who's up for a three-hour lunch?"); "Peeling that thin plastic film off new electronics" ("Welcome to the world, remote control"). Other items get more substantial discussions, including the other side of the pillow, old playground equipment, hotel lobby bathrooms, the last day of school, and the five-second rule. Though tongue-in-cheek, Pasricha emerges a committed but inviting optimist, combating life's unending stream of bad news by identifying opportunities to "share a universal high five with humanity." Readers looking for simple, unsentimental pick-me-ups should find this happy browsing.

This book will make you feel AWESOME!

This is definitely a "feel good" read. Even the style of writing is awesome! It's a great gift idea. (I've already given 2 copies as gifts to co-workers.) It's not a story with characters and a plot, it's just of sharing of things, situations, places, etc. that are simply...awesome. A perfect example? Blowing out all the candles on your first try! Awesome!

    I Also Recommend:

    I Can't Do It Justice!

I don't know what more I can say about this book that has not already been said. I feel like my words will not do it justice. What I will say is that this book is an interesting read!

I also recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score." I thought that the book was just about forgiveness, I soon learned, it was about so much more. The author pulls back the curtain to his own life to offer a glimpse at the true power of forgiveness. All of that, while offering up interesting and often tears worthy stories that drives the point home.

Having read it, I feel like a better person. It felt almost like therapy and help me confront some deep issues that I often treated like they weren't mine to deal with. I feel better having done that and having read this book. Maybe because this book spoke to me and not down to me. I have read a lot of books that was written like I didn't know anything. What the author of "When God Stopped Keeping Score" does is talk to you like a friend. I needed that. You might too. It is on sale here on BN.com.

Awesome Doesn't Begin To Describe It

I love the blog that inspired this book and have been a faithful reader. This book pulls some of the entries and compiles them into a book that is great when you need a pick-me-up, have a few minutes and need something to read that you can put down, or need a conversation started. I often find myself reading an entry and then sharing it with whoever is around me.

You will not be disappointed by The Book of Awesome, because its... AWESOME!

    The Awesome Book.

    Book Review

"The Book of Awesome" is just as great as the name. It's awesome. It has a bunch of short stories of the little things that you don't realize can make you smile inside your head and not notice it. One example is taking underwear right out of the dryer and putting it right on. Remember how good it felt? I bet you thought it was awesome too. Am I not right? 1,401 things that are awesome in everyday life in just one book is pretty amazing.

When I started to read this book I started to be more aware of everything and caught myself smiling. This book is so intelligent, the way the author speaks out their thoughts, and I can really relate and connect to it in almost every paragraph I read. I absolutely adore this book and will keep it forever. If you read this book you'll chuckle out loud. The things it says in it about like 'Neighbors with Pools" is so interesting because we don't notice it but we do use those people during the summer.

So when you're feeling a bit down and need something to cheer you up, this is what you do. You read this book. I recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor, boy or girl, adults, anyone. Maybe also to people who have a hard life, and who are brought down a lot, this book will bring you right back up there. So if it's salty fries, a good floss after tough steak, or the final seconds of untying a bit knot, then pick this book.
