Overview

Home to the Fletcher family for generations, Dare Island is a fishing village rocked by changing times—its traditions slipping away like sands of the North Carolina coast. Single dad and fishing boat captain Matt Fletcher deferred his own dreams to support his innkeeper parents and build a future for his sixteen-year-old son. Matt has learned to weather life's storms by steering a steady emotional course...and keeping a commitment-free approach to love.

Newcomer Allison Carter came to Dare Island to escape the emotional demands of her wealthy family. The young teacher aims to build a life here, to make a lasting place for herself. She doesn't want to be another Woman Who Once Dated Matt Fletcher. It's both tempting and dangerous to believe she can be something more.

Then Matt's brother Luke makes a sudden return home, with a child of his own—and a request that will change all their lives. With a child's welfare at stake, Matt must turn to Allison to teach him to let go of the past, open his eyes...and follow his heart.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Fisherman and single father Matt Fletcher likes things simple and uncomplicated—in life and love—until the fetching Allison Carter enters his world. A new teacher on Dare Island, Allison is following her passion despite the pressures of a privileged upbringing. When she becomes concerned about Matt’s son’s education, the sparks fly between her and Matt. The arrival of Matt’s troubled brother and an unexpected tragedy push them closer together, with both surprised to find how much they need and want each other. This first in a proposed trilogy introduces readers to the Fletcher clan, whose warmth and devotion feel genuine, and the palpable heat from Matt and Allison ensures a sizzling good time. Kantra’s storybuilding is excellent; readers may feel shortchanged by some unresolved plot points, but hopefully those will be addressed in subsequent installments. Agent: Robin Rue, Writers House. Great Read !! This is the first book I have read by this author.

    Great Read !!
This is the first book I have read by this author. Can't wait for the other 2 books in this Dare Island trilogy so I can follow the Fletcher family . There are some unfinished stories that I hope get a conclusion somewhere in the next 2 books. I especially need to find out more about Luke and Taylor. I really enjoyed the family dynamics-very realistic.

Highly Recommend - Stellar launch to a new series!!

Virginia Kantra has long been an auto-buy for me and once again she delivers a one-sitting read with CAROLINA HOME! What a stellar launch to the Dare Island series. Matt and Allison are now two of my all-time favorite Kantra couples – I can’t wait for the next book in the Dare Island series. Virginia Kantra is a storyteller extraordinaire whose characters curl right up in your heart to live long after the last page has been turned. Readers who enjoyed Nora Roberts’ Chesapeake Series (as I did!) will love this book!

    Loved it!

Have read several of Kantra's books and liked them, but this by far is the best! The area the story is set in is as down to earth as she portrays. I could "see" the different characters and situations. Can't wait for the next two and to see if my conclusions about Taylor are correct.
